  2. Hope that ref enjoys his £50 million off the Qatari gov 💀💀

Absolutely shocking refereeing in not one but two matches two days in a row

  3. Still proud of England, I thought they played really well :) The ref definitely made some shocking decisions...

I've got Argentina in my family sweepstakes so I'll be rooting for them in the semi finals :p

  4. RIP to the French teenager a bunch of Moroccan football fans living in France murdered last night in the midst of a rampage in which they assaulted countless French people.

So glad to see that team out of the cup purely because of their fan's disgusting behaviour.
  5. Ah, so it's not just when they win that there are issues. I'm sorry to hear. :( Edit: Reading the news, I would say there is certainly no murder in question here. That might not be a discussion to be had here, but it sounds like an accident to me, that happened in the chaos incited.
  6. IMO people dying in riots is an eventuality and when you participate in one you do it with that knowledge and are responsible for it when it happens. And they've done it across Europe several times now and were trying to force themselves inside that man's car, causing him to panic and try to speed off (instead slamming into a fourteen year old child), so I hold them very much responsible.

  7. I disagree, I think there is an important distinction to be made. I agree with holding them responsible, but not with using the term 'murder'.

Anyway... the finals will be Argentina against France, right? Tuqueque still might've got the eventual winner correct, then. :D
  8. Will Messi finally achieve his World Cup Champion title or will Mbappe make his two at 23 years old!
  9. 2-0 half time for argentina. France made 2 subs pre half-time and have played better after doing so. Will France be able to counter Argentina’s offensive?
  10. France was able to equalize in the last 10 minutes! And Argentina managed to survive France’s momentum. Here we go extra time!! 2-2
  11. Extra time was also another roller coaster win another goal for both Messi and Mbappe and we went to the penalty shootout!

And Argentina wins with 4 goals, against 2 goals 1 block and 1 miss!

  12. I read a few news articles, and it sounds like it was a great match!!
Also, I knew that Lionel Messi was a very good player, but it sounds like Kylian Mbappé is a star too!

  13. Ultimately a display of some poor game control from both managers, momentum and a couple penalties.

France offered almost nothing for the first half and much beyond, their 41 minute subs were definitely misdirected, they had no presence in the midfield at all but they subbed two attackers when ultimately they didn't get any service from behind for almost 80 minutes. All the while, Argentina completely dominated and put two well worked goals past them.

Scaloni subbed off Di Maria for Acuna, which was a terrible move, inviting way more pressure onto them and removing their best attacker in the game. We've seen from the Argentina Netherlands game that they can't handle holding onto a lead by letting the other team come at them, they had to keep a positive style.

Anyway I can't not mention the football GOAT in this post. His name starts with M, you know it. I'm so glad he finally won the World Cup he deserves and he truly is the embodiment of football so...
Mac Allister, take a bow. What a performance in the final and throughout the world cup. Definite Ballon D'or winner now.

  14. My first World Cup was in 2006 and I have not missed any of the four (now five) finals I've been around for.

And with that in mind I can confidently say that, once France actually got into the game in the seventieth minute, that turned into the best World Cup final I've seen in my 22 years on this planet. And you wouldn't have thought that in the first half when France were down 2-0, had zero shots on the goal, they were losing the possession battle by a hefty margin, their golden boy had not had a single touch of the ball, and Argentina were absolutely buoyant. I'd have laughed at you if you told me I'd be watching my first (and at the rate they happen... probably my last) ever WC final penalty shootout an hour later.

Scaloni subbing off Di Maria was the best thing to happen for the entertainment value. I'm so glad he did it. Awful, awful managerial decision that made no sense but it made the match so much more exciting. Plus it enabled me to win one of my bets and earn back the money I lost on the other two smh

Seeing Messi lift the cup at the end of his international career is something I'll tell my kids about.

But also my god Mbappe overshadowed Messi's win for me personally - scoring not one, not two, but three penalties when his country needed it most and a regular old goal that sent the game to extra time. In the England v France game, Harry Kane had to score two penalties for his country to keep us in the tournament and he cracked under the pressure on the second one, and I felt that was understandable - Mbappe deserves so much credit for being able to do it three times (and at 23 years of age!!).

And with that, I cannot wait for 2026. It'll be interesting to see how some of the breakout teams (Morocco in particular) of this tournament develop, and England's current squad will be entering its prime and will hopefully have learned to risk yellow cards. Gonna be an insane decade for international football I think.
