hey all! with the new global chat ive noticed that when new players are logging in, the players on the same SMPknow to say welcome, but the players on other SMP's don't know to welcome someone unless they see someone else welcoming the new player so what im suggesting is that once the server is more stable and bugs have been taken care of, make the "Player1 has started the tutorial" message global to all SMP's
I could have sworn I saw a message pop up for a person that wasn't on my smp and was finishing the tutorial. If not, yeah we can look at this.
Yes, I think we should! I doubt the influx would become so high that it would become spammy. According to the Servers page, we still work with a default server for new players, where as long as that server is selected, any new players that don't connect to any smp in particular will connect to that one. This means that if you're on smp2 now and see 3 new players per hour, if this suggestion were to be implemented, you would maybe see 4 or 5 new players per hour, not 27.
There are two new player messages. One after they start moving and can chat. The second when they finish. Do you think both should be sent out?
Only the second. It's best they don't have confusion from people saying hi before they can play fully.
First message should AT LEAST be sent to staff, if removed from general public. We use the notification.
I prefer to say Hi to them when they finish the tutorial. Cuts down on the conversation while they are working through the tutorial and they aren't paying attention to chat anyway. And second, makes it easier when they disconnect after choosing not to stay and seeing what we have to offer (like they wanted a pvp server).
Yeah I think a global, new player joined message, after they've finished the tutorial would be great. It would let people easily welcome new players, no matter which Smp they join and it will help the new players know there is a global chat and that they can move to another Smp, if they don't fancy playing on the default choice.
I'd be worried about overwhelming new players - if I log on somewhere and am bombarded with greetings I get stressed and leave. Maybe it's okay for just one SMP to do the greeting.
That might be good for people to keep in mind! If a player has already received three greetings, you needn't add more unless you have something new to say, maybe.
