  3. I think this is a great reason to make the central hub at the FAQ/members boards (do we have a name for this structure?). Especially for new citizens but I think everyone can benefit from seeing the FAQ and member names. Damn, now i prefer "FAQ station".

I disagree. I think single player is as you describe and some of multiplayer but building for a community on a multiplayer server is different. For me, lots of empty buildings with no function kill the community. Especially in the town centre. If there isn't any reason for people to gather then there will be no community. At the moment the only things I see people using are the enchanting room and the various farms.

Utility/purpose/usefulness is just another aspect of building design.

Of course the problem then becomes what to fill these buildings with.

The theatre is waiting an ambitious director. I think you just volunteered, k123nino.
  4. Hmm very true. In multiplayer, the community aspect is just as important too. I just get nervous when people start talking about the "usefulness" of buildings because I'm afraid of people using that as an excuse to destroy buildings they don't like.
  5. Yeah definitely don't want that. It's just to encourage people to fill up some of the shells. And its not necesssary for the buildings to actually be used Eg the bathhouse and waterpark may not be used much but they give u a feeling of stuff happening which is great.
  6. There's room on top of the mud house ontop of my roof c:
    (also everywhere else, I guess?)

And I can help you out with clearing the water if you want to.
    Shaving is right, though. :c

  7. (-1840,-1860)ish on the live map. This seems like about the only 'open' land left that's anywhere near the geographical center of our rapidly expanding colony. I'm not sure what's under it, but the overland looks kinda wastelandish, with a few deep 1x1 holes for nice killing effect. it's almost become like an abandoned lot in the inner city; dangerous, high crime(creeper/skelly) rate, and would probably benefit from being cleaned up, and turned into a transportation hub. Logically, a main line from the welcome/guest area to the main hub at said location, main lines out to central locations in each of the main 'districts', and if necessary, smaller branch lines out from the local hubs to the more remote, yet used areas of each 'district'. (I put district in quotes to denote that I'm not referring to the hard bordered districts from the map, but more to the actual centers of activity within the community.) I am also open to a hub, or even just a station stop running through my building, but I ask that those lines remain subterranean, as the land above is awfully crowded already, and I'd really like to keep my 'oasis pond' for the front entrance area. It looks nice. ;D I've been digging the basement levels as fast as I can (slower lately, as my PC monitor died and I'm back to the wife's Macbook Pro again. }:p ), and I think the lowest one should be deep enough for the rail lines to not affect the sand above. Anyone who wants to install a station must only follow ONE rule of the basement levels: Please don't block any of the FOUR columns where the sun comes down from the lobby. Those are intended to light the entire structure, from peak all the way down to bedrock, if it ever gets that deep. If anyone wants to dig it deeper, the pattern for the levels should be apparent at this point, so just continue the pattern downward. I want to keep the middle mostly uncluttered, with most of the add-on construction running off the sides of the main shaft. I've already found an underground pond that I intend on turning into a subterranean 'green' space; trees, grass, crops, etc. Have fun, be creative! ;D

  8. I think some of the buildings will get more "useful" with the 1.3 update. Esp. the books will help so at least each building can have some sort of history. Also books will help using the theater because we can store plays in game.

Regarding where the central rail rub will be I think we should have a vote. I will set one up later.

  9. I'm getting sick of the sight of my own messages and I'm sure y'all are too. But really, I have to post this because we need Captain Sensible. Captain Sensible is a very boring man but sometimes you just need him so badly.

So I went to check Min_miners old house cos I saw a mention it had been griefed. Firstly, a gold star for the guys who caused the destruction because they left signs with an explanation and their names. That is good and right.

But really .... do we really have to add this to the FAQ Board?????
"Question: can I burn down derelict houses?
Answer: no because fire can spread and maybe it will burn down someone else's house. Please don't use fire or TNT on buildings in the outpost"

So I think you guys should first clean up the mess you left and put the materials you salvage in a community chest for everyone. Then apologise to mba for the damage done to his Miner Co HQ and beg him not to report you and ask what you can do to put this right. But then that's just what I'd do.

Please enjoy the following pictorial story - names smudged to protect the reckless

All jokes aside, It's a good thing fire doesn't spread as much and as fast as before, or we'll be like a NYC during communist invasion. :l

  13. Just saying it is possible the fire was caused by lightning and the guys just put it out. I put out several lightning fires before. Or did anyone see somebody put fire to the building?
ZeWildGuy, Jakres and Equinox_Boss like this.
  14. This is actually very likely, The rain puts out the fire, but if the lighting hits a piece of flammable wall with a big enough roof for the rain to not reach the fire, it'll spread.

  15. Yea I agree with omeletrice about cause a grave with nether rack got struck by lighting and etc. but might been weird moment of course a lot of that going around are now
