Hey Everyone. Just a simple idea. A way to block certain players from commenting on your profile, and threads.
and? that was a while ago... Its allowed to re-post suggestions when its been a while since the last one, as it could be added now, but in the past they did not see a need...
I disagree, man. Censorship is an awful thing and it has no place anywhere on the internet, or anywhere for that fact. This is a public forum for the player base and there are ways to deal with things that bother you such as the 'Report' button. You can even delete posts on your profile! But, yeah, censorship is a bad thing to start because it sets an awful precedent and is a bad idea.
I never said Censorship.... The suggestion is not to block people from seeing those threads or profiles.... Its to block them from commenting. And not a large group. Its for those who have got any kind of rudeness from others. If someone is always rude to another, then why should they have the right to continue? This would block them from continuing to be rude.
I get how he thought it would be like censorship, but I do agree. Certain players just simply do not get along with each other ever, which is why we have the /ignore command in game. If we can fully ignore them in game, why not on the forums too?
That's what censorship is, though. You're stopping people from ssying things. And I'm not saying that I approve of rudeness, but as chocolate said, censorship sets a bad precedent and you should just report them.
That's literally the definition of censorship. I understand your concerns, but this is the internet. People are bound to have different opinions but telling them that they can't voice that for whatever reason is not a good idea. There is that little 'Report' button like I said, if someone bothers you that much. But this is the internet, you're bound to see someone that is rude, and you just gotta deal with it. You shouldn't take to heart every little thing some obscure individual says.
"Every once in a while the Suggestion Box forum is overrun with discussions that have been conjured up many, many times before. Therefore, this Wiki page serves as a guide on the suggestions that have been Implemented, are In Discussion, and that have been Rejected. Please preview this list before making any propositions, as chances are you'll find it here." You do this all of the time. It's not some one-time occurrence, please stop taking other's suggestions. I know exactly who you're attacking with this one, and any "rudeness" you seem to pick up is not just single-party. You are continually attacking people, then get mad when you get retaliation. Just accept you're not at fault and ignore the messages. (or they can just ignore each-other in general). Also once again, this is not a single-party issue. It is both parties, nobody on either side of this OP is "innocent" especially if you're doing it right back to that same exact person.
As I said in that comment I left on your status that you deleted within thirty seconds of me posting it; I don't want to be rude, but... You could stop getting offended over anything people write directed towards you when you're wrong and labelling them as transphobic or homophobic when they're clearly not, and accept a differing opinion. You could stop brushing off requests for evidence of some weird claims about the EMC community with "I don't have to prove myself". You could stop trying to stir up drama and then insulting people who 'want to stir up drama'. You could stop trying to go deeper into something someone said to you and correlating it back to how you're part of the LGBTQ community. I get the feeling that the people who are 'rude' to you aren't being like that because you're trans, they're doing it because you're, in many cases, put quite bluntly, wrong. Just an idea.
If we don't have the ability to stop a player on mod watch from posting a status, we don't have this. As with all other forum suggestions similar, we need a forum upgrade before I'm even going to open this discussion. And that's not 'soon'.
Honestly, it's probably not 'ever'. The forums aren't really something that we can update easily because of how EMC is coded to work in sync with the forums, and in order to upgrade the forums we'd have to drag devs away from things like Dragon Tombs and Empires (which, let's be honest, are much more preferable to get instead of something that is already humanly-possible)
aren't you able to restrict your profile to people you follow or people who follow you? I havent messed with that, but couldn't that work
i wouldnt mind the suggestion. and im aware it wont happen anytime soon but me personally (as a person who lots of folks dont like) wouldnt do this myself. better to have others be able to see when people are rude publically then if theres ever any question you could just say go to my profile check it out.
First of all about the whole discussion: where 2 people fight two are to blame in my book. Sure, if you talk to someone and they give you an attitude then it's on them when they get some backlash. But it's still up to you to determine the kind of backlash and.... how long you're going to insist and persist on pushing your opinion across. That's my opinion on the discussion, one I'm not getting into because I intend to enjoy the Empire today (it's been a while since I woke up, got breakfast, tea.. and then waited for people to come online this early in the morning (GMT+1)). I'm definitely going -1 on threads because threads work in a action = reaction kind of way. Blocking (and in a way that is a kind of censorship) has no place on a public forum. If you don't want to get certain comments then don't post public posts. Now... I get what you're saying. An ignore option to ignore players could be useful. That I agree with but that's (to my knowledge) a Xenforo issue. I'm a little indifferent on that myself, but I in support so I will go +1 on that one. BUT... You can block players from posting on your profile. Doing this will limit that option only to those you are following, and no one else. Go to your privacy settings (hover over your name in the upper right corner to open the menu, then click privacy). After you done that find this option: This will give you full control over who can post. I know this isn't what you asked for, you wanted to block certain people, but this does come close. Hope this can still help a bit. SO... summing up: blocking players -1 ignoring players +1
