I also think it would be nice to have as a high-streak voter reward. Since the elytra seems to only last seven minutes with durability, I think the unbreakable and soulbound enchantment would be necessary just like the other items. I think it'd be a fair reward at around 500 or 750.
I don't see any reason to limit them or make them any more common then they are. They're already pretty common as is...
I'm as close to 100% against this being a voter item as I can get. Taking away the soulbound/unbreaking aspects - every voter item is CRAFTABLE. These are not - I'm fairly certain this wont be an option. I'd be willing to bet 798 of my finest sheep that Aikar will say - nah. Does look like a fun item though - we do know that 1.9 won't be on EMC for a while, right? Aikar - I suggest the 1.9 will be here 'soon(tm)' thread start now. Taking away the soulbound/unbreaking aspects - makes every Voter's item IRRELEVANT. Since many of the enchantments on Voter's gear are less than what I could craft myself, those two characteristics are the main reasons I have use them. Maybe if the armor had a different look that made it special, but it doesn't. As it applies to the Elytra, I doubt if I will bother with one except to play around initially unless it were also unbreaking at least. An Elytra that breaks after I use it seems like having a horse that dies on me. I'd rather walk if I can't rely on it.
When an Elytra hits 0 durability, it stays at 0 (not breaking), but becomes useless unless repaired with leather or other Elytras.
The elytra is an armor piece, just like the other voter set items, what makes this any different? Just because it has different characteristics than a Voter's Chestpiece, that makes it overpowered? If you haven't already looked at the snapshot, you'll know that it replaces your chestpiece. It takes away the largest piece of armor, making your armor rating drop significantly. The elytra doesn't allow you to fly, it allows you to GLIDE. I just don't see how this is overpowered in the slightest. Fast travel? Great. It'll last around 100-200 blocks assuming you start at the top of a cliff. I just don't understand why this item is overpowered. You all keep saying it's "too OP", but don't list any reasons. At the least, I'd like this to not lose durability in town like other armor pieces. (boots with feather falling)
This is an UNCRAFTABLE item. All of the other voter items ARE craftable (with added UB and SB). As a Voter Item - it would be OP.
Sponges. That's what this reminds me of. If Aikar really does add a /ewaste (which he probably will) then every few months, a new wave of Elytra will exist. Same goes for sponges. Every time the waste resets, new temples are generated and new sponges are up for grabs. A voter's Elytra is a great idea! What are you gonna use it for? Mostly just long-distance travel. So how does that make it OP? Sure, you can glide longer with unbreakable Elytra, but that's it, really.
I don't know. I know i wouldn't have an elytra when they first come out. I'd probably wait until a few resets so they're stocked in shops and a decent price.
I like the idea of getting the elytra, but im opposed for everyone to have one for free. In vanilla, there are only 3 in the entire world(i thought i read bout this somewhere, but indeed, there are infinite end city ships) , and if you use it a lot, they will run out as XP cost will increase and increase until is unfixable. It is the first not-regetable item(after the ender dragon). I believe that making everyone have 1 is just against the idea of why is in the end dimension. It is an end-game item that is supposed to be a reward after the ender dragon fight. If we get it for free, it is kinda lame and not satisfactory(also against Mojang code of placing it there, Mojang isn't perfect but they do balance stuff, like this one(what im saying is that mojang was smart to place the elytra in the end). So i say NO to giving it to everyone for free. (maybe 100k tokens or something)
I'll put in my two cents, and try to clear up some confusion: When an elytra breaks it becomes unusable until repaired, but it doesn't disappear. Since EMC caps anvil repairs at 39, they are indefinitely repairable, not to mention the new mending enchant. With the new mending enchantment it takes roughly the same XP as needed to go from level 0 to 24 to mend you elytra completely from broken, that's about 1/3 of what's needed to go from 0 to level 39. With Unbr. III the flight time is closer to 30 minutes, or somewhere in the ballpark of 54,000 blocks you can travel, and again it's repaired with 4 leather, or the new mending enchant. They are game-changing. They should be available even to newish players (I'd hate to see it priced at anything over 20k). Making them only available after a year of voting would be immensely annoying. Especially since some of us, like, are away from the internet sometimes. EDIT: Adding onto that, there are other End-game items that are relatively available. For example, most regular players can afford god armor or close to it. That being said, I'm not opposed some sort of god elytra as a voter's prize, I just don't want it to be the only option. There are definitely more than 3 Elytras per End.
