  1. Hey guys! I'm thinkatron and i'm new to this server. I just got on the server for the first time but i've been following some threads for a while. I look forward to playing and having a good time, but i was wondering:
  2. Welcome! :)
I prefer town because there are more people around to talk with. There's not really much adventure though, as opposed to the frontier. Joining a group base could be the solution to combine both people to talk with and adventure. I would recommend doing what I also told you on the other thread, go to the frontier on one server (or three or four, whatever) and stay in town on others.
  3. Welcome to EMC!
As for which is better, it depends on what you enjoy.
    • A Town Plot.
      • This is the best choice if your main source of enjoyment is the community - making friends, socializing, etc, while having a protected piece of land to build on. It's also ideal if you plan on doing anything economy-wise (IE, starting a shop) or just prefer the security of knowing there's a chunk of the empire you have full control over.
    • My own base on the frontier
      • If you're a bit of a loner and like the survival aspect, this is for you. While there's nothing that says you can't have friends with you, the frontier isn't protected from griefing - so any base you make should be built a significantly long way from the wilderness spawns / outposts (as well as a minimum of 3,000 blocks from any other construction in your vicinity, for Establishment purposes). But if you prefer sprawling epic builds, natural landscape, and no restrictions on size or scope, this is probably your better option.
    • Joining a group base on the frontier.
      • A kind of decent middle ground. Joining an outpost is a good way to meet some folks, maybe make a few close friends, and still enjoy the survival part of the server. There are a few caveats with this, mainly that you must agree to abide by whatever rules or leadership guidelines the outpost's owner sets forth. Good communication is essential here, but it can be a lot of fun cooperatively building cities together.
And having said all that, there's no rule that you can't do both! My personal home and bookstore are both located on SMP8 in town, but my Frontier base is on SMP5. The ability to switch servers easily means you can hop back and forth between the town and wilderness, although it can sometimes be tricky deciding where to focus your attention. ;)

  6. Just read Kephras's post for your answer. He sums it up quite nicely.
