  1. Well i know there are plenty of people here who love the series.... But my question is what is so good about it?
I want to see how other people enjoy it and then maybe i could enjoy it myself. From what i've seen it's just a man running round frantically with a screwdriver in his hand, fighting mediocre monsters and flying in a time box....

There is nothing cool about that..... Just one man's opinion :)

  5. I've been watching since Tom Baker played the 4th Doctor. For me, I like that the show's concepts (Time Lords, time travel, regenerations, and the shifting cast of The Doctor's companions) has allowed it to be many things over the years. Sometimes it's action, sometimes cerebral, sometimes it's drama and sometimes it's funny and because it's always changing it never gets old, for me at least.

That's why I like it. Your mileage may vary.

  6. This thread's a disaster waiting to happen... Just -- be glad you don't have a Tumblr account. It's full of "Superwholocks" e_e
  7. Personally, the only reason I never started watching Dr Who was because of the majority of its fanbase. And I don't care if that's shallow, lol.

  10. Yep. Got that right. Might as well tag her :p
  11. Lol, I was online when andrew brought it up in town chat.

Honestly, I understand that some people don't like it. Just as some people don't enjoy romantic comedies, horror films, etc. Each genre has it's own following. However, here are the reasons why I like it:

-Action. Everyone loves a good action show and the peril of your favorite character on-screen can give you an adrenaline rush without needing to go scale a mountain...
-Drama. Twists and turns that you don't see coming. Everything interconnected in some way or another. Just plain excitement there. Steven Moffatt can go a little overboard here...
-Snarky British comments. I love know-it-all characters that are filled with wisdom but still do things on the fly and often end up just getting by by a very small thread lol.
-The main character could die at any moment. Though in the recent series this is ruined by characters announcing that they are leaving the show well in advance, it still gets you and they constantly put the main character in perilous situations....more adrenaline and living vicariously =)
-Mystery. Who doesn't love a good who-done-it type of show. I love mystery and cop shows and doctor who mixes this with aliens and the impossible so definitely my cup of tea there....

Btw, if anyone DOES enjoy Doctor Who, check out the show Forever on ABC. One man, can't die, he's an M.E. for New York. Pretty much Doctor Who without aliens...
  12. Except for the random doctor who pictures posted in these forums, I have yet to see any doctor who related pictures on tumblr... and I've been on there for over 2 years ;)
  13. I respect doctor who for the length of time it has been running, but i really notice that some things just get repetitive....

Ok you have the daleks who everyone loves, fair enough. But bringing back annoying 1 shot monsters who nobody cares about starts to get annoting.
I also watched the episode today, just to see what it was like... That danny person had me cringing and annoyed within seconds, luckily he died....... And then we find out he's not dead.... That was a really disappointing and pointless turn of events in my opinion.

  17. I don't personally watch it, simply for the reason that it seems TOO complex. It's not like I'm too lazy to, I just have no idea where to start. I have friends WHO (see what I did there? ......No? Okay......) love the show and spend hours talking about it, and each time it's about something different. Can that be done about a repetitive show? Not really.

Plus krysyy likes it, and I need brownie points.

  18. LIES! You just signed yourself a contract to death. Doctor Who is not a stupid man running around with a screwdriver. It is.... a source of life. Peace. Love. Doctor Who.
  19. See, the problem is, you are assuming that this show's plot is simply cause and effect, but it's *actually* a big ball of wibbly wobbly, time-y wimey . . . stuff.

  20. People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But really, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, its really a big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey.... stuff.
