Grinder Help (Pic)

  1. where ever your spawner is the max area for the mobs to spawn in is 8 x 8 but I see what your doing with the water so clear a floor space 10 x 10 with spawner in the middle, 1 bucket of water in each corner will bring mobs to centre 2 x 2 block area for the drop. if you are more then 15 blocks away the spawner will not spawn. So my advice is to check out either TheWebtuts on youtube for a similar one. or also EthosLab again on youtube
  2. That's not the type of spawner he's making. This one spawns mobs naturally as opposed to the one you're talking about which uses a mob spawning block
  3. neither of us are using spawners, its all natural spawn grinder.
  4. Well, I started over copying another design, that seems to be more materials, but in general easier.
  5. Ahhhhhhh ...... Read comments above! :p

Go on...I'm waiting for the correct apology.... you do have it in you ... yes?
  6. I see, nice :)
  7. Well i was wrong and you where right - apology given :D np's
  8. Is the area around it lit, and the grinder covered?
  9. I don't think so it looks like 3 x 3 platforms with half slabs in the centre, mobs spawn naturally in dark area's when the walk into the water the flow pushes them to the drop - pit. 23 blocks is normal drop for a quick kill and xp
  10. But they spawn in larger amounts when there's less mobs around :p
  11. The design looks fine. As mentioned, you do need to be a distance away. As you are probably dropping the mobs 23-25 blocks, standing anywhere around your kill zone should be fine. The other major issue, as far as construction goes, is the caves surrounding the area. If they are not lit well it will drastically reduce your spawn rate. The first spawner I ever made would generate 1 / hour, if that...because it was above a major cave system.

The other issue is.... the server. Mobs, for some reason, just don't spawn sometimes. I have no idea why. I've left the chunk completely, checked caves...

Also, you will definitely want some more floors. 1 spawning floor won't generate that many mobs at all. My designs use no less than 3 floors, ever.
  12. I can assure you my system works...

However I wish I would of built over land now..

squids are spawning in the ocean, but im not sure if they affect rate or not since its a different spawn tick, but i hate seeing my Entity count inflated with mobs that arnt in the grinder :(

weve lit up the caves under the ocean

ive added more screenshots as i built this to my folder, check:

  13. Yours definitely works. I think I've seen more screenshots of yours than I've seen of mine... or the one I'm helping JLopez with. Out of curiosity, and since you don't show your coords (for obvious reasons,) what height level are you at on that island? I would think that if the base is @ 128 or higher - you wouldn't get too many spawns down in the ocean. I'm 99% sure that the hostile and passive mobs are totally different as well. You should be able to walk 128 blocks away, and have the silly squids despawn.
  14. maybe are the mobs spawning under you and not in the spawner, if that is you need to make yourself stand high above the spawner
  15. im at Y 107 for kill platform and first floor is at 131

but, mobs spawn up to 144 away from you, so its not really possible to get away from them as mobs dont spawn over 240...

so, I forgot to close MC before I went into a 1hr+ meeting... and was essentially 2hrs before I got back...
Lets just say it works... 430+ mobs were inside it (used entity count on F3)

    watch my level...

I'm now 45 about to go enchant.

  16. Thanks for the info Aikar helps - looks like your using 1 wide for water flow's if so how does that affect spiders and blockages! or can spiders come down 1 block drops now?
  17. Spiders will back up the one block flow.

The 1/2 blocks on the spawning pads stop them from spawning.
  18. Interesting thanks for that - learn't something new today which is always a good thing :)
  19. link is broken. but I'd be interested in building this, if you're willing to help :). I've always wanted a grinder.

also, what mod are you using for the maps? i know it has to be one of the allowed mods.
