So, for all PewDiePie and/or hardcore gaming fans out there, you've probably heard of a thing called Virtual Reality. If you didn't hear of virtual reality, then either click here for a Wikipedia article, or read my explanation in the spoiler below. In a nutshell, virtual reality is (or is going to be) a video game genre in which the player is immersed completely inside the video game (ex: you're the shooter in Call of Duty instead of using a controller to control him) and is controlled as you would move in real life. As of right now, the closest thing to virtual reality is by using the Oculus Rift to view the game as if you were actually in the game (input is still with keyboard/mouse or a game-supported controller) Once this comes out, what games are you hoping to be released in virtual reality form? YES YES I KNOW THAT SAO WILL TURN OUT TERRIBLY. I KNOW THAT WE'LL ALL DIE, BUT I'M GOING TO SAVE US ALL. I MEAN, LOOK AT ME USING MY FRIGGIN DUAL BLADES LIEK A BAWS IN MY SIGNAHTUR. I'M KUHZUTO KIHRIHGIYA. I KNOW HOW TO USE SAWRDS.
FREAKING HECK CHRIS DO YOU NOT REMEMBER SAO?!?! I THOUGHT YOU'D BE THE ONE PERSON TO KNOW THAT WE DON'T WANT THIS.
The problem with progression in control interfaces is that they are quickly approaching the uncanny valley.. like kinect. Nothing in the uncanny valley is commercially viable. They'll have to go straight from Oculous Rift to those VR Pods you see in Fallout. You can't use human-input as controls because jogging in place does not feel like running.
Show me the Carmack! Its cool to see all of these developers trying to get into virtual reality. Hopefully whenever it does get made, VALVe makes Half-Life-3 Oculus compatible.
I couldn't find the tweet where he out right said it, but I found this. https://twitter.com/ID_AA_Carmack/statuses/368402499419394049
Hm. Problem is, in most games you have to walk. So how would that work in a virtual reality gaming thing?
Oh dear, virtual reality Minecraft would not be good. Imagine mining... for 2,000 blocks... without stopping... sore arms for the win!
