The jar file contains most of the coding of minecraft so handing it out for free would be like pirating a game.

I'm on 1.2.3 on my laptop and 1.1 on my P.C and its too confusing (And for some reason wool is like 3r per piece ATM :/

Well, Minecraft allows you to download the game/jar file for free, it is the account you pay for. If the game is already free, then distributing it is not technically piracy. However, I wouldn't do it in mass because some jerk and his lawyer will try to sue you over it (Because what can't you sue over these days?).
