After reading the post (and the thread), is a "Museum" world a good idea?

Yes! I love the idea the way it is! 27 vote(s) 79.4%
Yes, but it needs some small changes! (please comment in the thread) 2 vote(s) 5.9%
Yes, but not for people who have been banned. 1 vote(s) 2.9%

No. It's an awful idea. (choosing this option will make Jabr sad, but Jabr will understand) 3 vote(s) 8.8%
  1. I was playing today and was online as one particular player (who had been around for almost 500 days) was permabanned. I should hardly have to mention how sad it makes me to see such an experienced player fall so far. That's not why I'm writing this though. This is (tl;dr at the end):

I believe the Empire should have a "Museum" world (just 1, across all servers - probably on smp1 or Utopia). This world would be a sort of safeguard for reses. There are some incredible creations out there in EMC, and I've seen many that I could never come close to reproducing be reclaimed and disappear (Amadai's for example). I wish there was a way to save these, so my suggestion is a world where only the best residences in danger of being reclaimed (due to a player being permabanned or just no longer playing on EMC) would be copied and saved. Everyone would have use flags, so the reses could be explored and enjoyed, but never changed. Even if a player was unbanned, their res would be reset, and this would be an good way to keep things for the community (an unbanned player would still not have any special permissions on their res copy, as it would remain for the benefit of the community, not the player). Given that only a few residences would make the cutoff, it wouldn't have the maintenance problems that /graveyard has, and it would keep the best of the best available for future generations of EMC.

tl;dr - if players with incredible reses leave EMC permanently (for whatever reason), their reses should be given to the community, not lost. A "Museum" world would be a great addition, keeping the best builds of EMC from being lost forever.

Thoughts? questions? Justin/Aikar/Jeremy/Max want to weigh in on this and let me know whether this would be at all possible?

P.S. Just to be clear, in the case of a ban this isn't saving a res for a banned player. This is saving it for the community.
  2. Fantastic idea, i wish pthaggards res could have been saved cause of the fact that it was one of the most well known and best looking shops (in my opinion)

  3. Very good idea. I believe some of the builds in EMC should be saved just in case something happens. I would hate to think that I would never see some of these builds again in EMC and it would be really fun to take a walk in the museum and explore past builds :p It could inspire future builders and really fun for other players to run around in.

  4. Good idea, but who would be to decide which res's get to be saved and which ones dont? i think there would be alot of "my res was awesome why didnt it get saved!?" stuff :3
  5. Yea, I didn't want to include this in the original post because it's a bit more controversial, could lead to hurt feelings, and it'd be a bit harder to maintain, but I'd also like to see copies of the very best active reses there too. That way we'd have a record of sorts of the best builds on EMC ever, all in one place.

  6. it would only apply to the very best of the best, and would be decided by the moderators in response to the general feeling of the community. Think of stuff like Eclipsys' builds (personally one of my favorite EMC architects).
  7. i like the idea, i just dont think there would be a way to do it "fairly" not that i'd care.. but others might haha

  8. Keep in mind that the original idea applies only to builds that were done by people who are no longer here. The unban ones would be a bit tricky to decide, but given that it's usually pretty obvious when someone high-profile enough for this is banned, the moderators could certainly manage to do it fairly :)

  9. I could use World Downloader. I could download the properties you requested, compile them together into one world, and then save that as one world and send it to you via email.
  10. I think hes talking more about the banned players, and since they're banned, i dont think they'd get much of a say.

  11. i think it would have to be done by an official EMC staff member

  12. I believe admins can use World Edit to copy/paste reses, so they'd be able to take care of it.

  13. I think this is a neat idea. I'd also think it would be cool if members could be allowed to build things for exhibits or something. There are reses of people who aren't even banned that would be awesome if there was some kind of showcase or something of that sort.
  14. Great idea! I think it would be really nice to have a world just for this!
It may cause some begging however.....
    ._.
  15. Finishes message - looks at rest of status and deletes post ;)
  16. Hey robot!!! and once again, it would first be to preserve the res's of banned players who have res's beyond awesome.
  17. Hey :) so some people have actually noticed I'm unactive? ;)
  18. I did :D
