So at 6:00 EST it would be 1:00 GMT?

6:00pm EST would be 1:00am GMT (Tomorrow morning)

So really it is a -17 hour difference or +7 hour difference.

I messed up, 6 EST would be 11 GMT.. EST is the same as GMT-5, I am in PST which it GMT-8. GMT is also referred to UTC. http://www.worldtimezone.com/
