  1. Not really true. Our modern desktops and GUIs all go back to Xerox actually. They kinda did it in the late 70ies.

Then in the early 80ies Apple got some people from Xerox and began making their UI. At the time there were other companies making similar things on all kinds of platforms (like GEOS for the C64).
It is true that "windows" was by far not the first GUI using that window-based layout / look but to say Gates stole that from Jobs is silly.

If anything all the companies stole the ideas from academia and various open source projects since the 50ies.

PS: If you really want to know where our ideas for modern desktops come from read this:

  2. They where an amazing company!
They invented the mouse (Steve Jobs copied it then so did Gates)
    Are they still running?

  4. Yes PARC still exists and they are still on the edge of technology, for example when it comes to computational linguistics and virtualization technology. But their golden days seem over. Back then they just came up with the most amazing things. For examples we can give (at least partial) thanks to PARC for the Ethernet standards and laser printers.

  5. BTW,
I still got ~25K rupees in the "griefing repair fund" from donations after the august fire griefings.
If anyone needs funds to repair griefings let me know. I can probably get in game for a few minutes at a friends house to do the transactions once or twice a week :)

  6. That thing on the map? That just appeared one day. No idea who made it.
We had the "if the LLO had a political system, what would it be?" and I concluded for me it was
A constructive Anarchy with a Democracy as fallback.

  8. I think we should ask Watk4219 if she wants to build something there. I seen your house and etc. and they have awesome designs to them I think this would be best.

Mba you have too many projects as it think you need to finish most of them before starting a another one.

  9. Wow. The place is just getting bigger. I have been scrolling on the livemap and must say I am really impressed. The Yeti-Village looks awesome and I can't wait to visit. Also the West seems to be getting ready for the LLOlympics. The beginnings of the stadium really look promising. :D
  10. I won't be starting that until I finish the stadium.

  11. Yeah I suppose I should make the trip out to finish my "house" that's way to big to be a house... Maybe, only if you want MBA, it could be some type of headquaters for the LLOlympics or something. The thing is just to big to be a house.

  16. He has/had an area reserved in the swamp near the haunted house that he refused to let people use because he was going to build a water park.

  18. the water park got cancelled. People built in the area and I did not have enough time. My big hole in the middle of the LLO will be built on once the stadium is done. I am currently collecting materials.
