My Assassin's Creed III review

  1. Hey guys I just finished Assassin's Creed III and I am going to write an honest, unbiased, and spoiler free review for all you guys wondering if you should buy the game or not. So here you go:

    Summary:
Assassin's Creed III is a game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It takes place during the revolutionary war and stars a new Assassin named Connor who is half Native American and half European. During the game you will kill many people, meet quite a few historical figures, and be an Assassin (obviously).

Gameplay: The first thing you will note about Assassin's Creed III when you pick up the game is how fresh everything feels and how smooth everything is now. The old game engine has been thrown in the trash and traded for a new one that allows more things to happen on the screen at once and some stunning new animations. Freerunning and combat have been changed, both for the better. Instead of holding down R1 and X to freerun (I played the game on the Playstation 3) you now hold down R1 only and tap X to jump in certain situations. You will still auto jump in between jumps you can make, however if there is a far jump (usually to the ground) Connor will stop running unlike his Ezio and Altair whom you would be screaming NONONONONONONWHYTHEFLIPWOULDYOUJUMPTOYOUROWNDEATH at. (excuse the Caps, used for a reason here) If you do want to take a risk you now press X to make a tough jump. Combat has been completely revamped and is now not only more fun, but more brutal, and a tad more difficult while being easy at the same time. Oh and by the way you can now climb trees too which is extremely fun and works very well. During your time you will be climbing the roofs of Boston and New York, as well as Climbing the trees of the Frontier and your Homestead. Gameplay wise I had no problems and had so much fun playing that I will come back for a long time.

Graphics: Like I said before the engine has been revamped and for the better. Environments and animations are beautiful, naval battles also look amazing, and combat animations make you say "Did I really just do that?" I don't have any problems with the new engine, however on Ps3 and Xbox both the game will suffer from a few framerate drops (mostly in cities) due, just to the age of the consoles. The draw distance has been reduced a bit as well, this is also due to the age of the consoles, but it is disguised as fog in most areas so it isn't too noticeable. The weather system and snow effects I will say are stellar and I have never seen anything like it on such a huge scale. One last nitpick I have about the graphics is that although environments, clothing (especially Connor's sexy outfit), and kill animations are stellar, the lip syncing issues in previous games still exist here, but once again this is just me nitpicking on a fantastic game. Overall the graphics are amazing and push the limits this gen has. On a side note for the most part voice acting has also been improved and is excellent this time around too.

Story: I do not want to give anything away about the story, however I will say Connor is not the only person you play as, and there is a HUGE plot twist that I did NOT see coming at all. The story overall is told very well, due to excellent writing, as always, and has a fantastic feel to it.

Multiplayer: I did not even touch it yet, sorry.

    Breakdown:

    Presentation: 9.5/10
The game's menus, and game layout are very good.

    Gameplay: 10/10
Some of the best gameplay I have played in a game in a long time.

    Graphics: 9/10
The new engine is amazing, but a few bugs/glitches and console limitations prevent it from being amazing. There are also, although not new to the series, some lip syncing issues.

    Story: 9/10
The story inside of the animus deserves a 10/10, however the Desmond side of things does not compare to the amazing story you see Connor involved in.

    Overall: 9.5/10 (not an average)
This is a game that will take a while to beat (I played it non-stop since I got it on the 29th, thanks video game store) and you will love it from start to finish.

K guys, I will be around for a bit to answer any questions you have about the game, thanks.

  2. And you won't for a while yet, the servers seem to be down.
Not surprising, with Ubi's track record on servers.

    And that plot twist, OMG!
I liked the achievement name for it as well lol.

  3. How were the 4 PS3 exclusive missions?
  4. I can almost guarantee that if I was drinking water during that cutscene I probably would have done a real spit take, not a staged one haha.
  5. I thought they were pretty well done, they were not my favorite part of my experience, but they were still very good.

  6. What did they involve?
And also, where they really 60 minutes of gameplay like the advert said?
  7. I'm thinking about getting this or Halo 4 for Christmas (on Xbox), any thoughts on which one I should get?
  8. Oh this, without any doubt.
    You won't regret it.

  9. Lol my post got deleted :p

But anyways, this game is AWESOME!!!
  10. let me say, i am a HUGE assassin's creed fan, and assassin's creed three is awesome, but i like brotherhood better
  11. Interesting, in what areas is it better?
    Just curious.
  12. Sorry guys I haven't been able to reply to this thread but I'm back on and I will answer any questions. By the way people worried about this game being too patriotic, you do mostly kill redcoats, but I will say neither side is portrayed positively in this game. The Redcoats are portrayed as evil, while the Yanks are portrayed as cowardly, and never take blame for anything. The game never really takes sides.
