Is there a way to lock buildmode on so that every time I go to an smp I'm currently building on my blocks will be protected? I don't need it on for all the smp's, just the one I'm building on. I'm currently building a protected platform in the sky to kill mobs on at an outpost in the wild on smp5 and when I need to step away from the keyboard I switch to another smp for safety. When I switch back to smp5 to continue building it takes me a while to figure out all the blocks I just placed are not protected because buildmode turned off when I switched servers. Creepers blow holes in stone floors that are not buildmode protected so it would be really nice if buildmode would stay on till I'm done building.
Or just an on-screen indication of which mode block protection is on: npmode or bmode Then you can just look at that and keep right on placing.
The on screen indicator would be VERY useful (would this be something Triphora's mod could do)?. I have the opposite problem where I have /npmode on (building something that moves), and then bam, it's back off and I did not notice (because I switched to/from the server). Yes, /npmode does flash a message, but if I'm in a hurry it is easy to miss for a while. I would also like it if /buildmode, /npmode would persist per server so that whatever mode you are on stays that way even if you switch.
There is already an on-screen message when using either of the build commands. If it could become static, like the on-screen compass command (... /comp show...) then it would be optional, voluntary, useful, and dare I say it, necessary for all building life on the Empire, well the wilds. Okay. That might have been a little on the extreme side of the statement, but I have been a fan of this idea for ... about 6 months less than I have been a member of this server. And I have mentioned the idea on a few boards, and would love to hear some feedback someday, on to how to make it work, or not work, or a work around. Open to a re-thinking if so required.
How about a /ps option that provides a static screen icon when enabled, in the same screen area as the beacon/potion effect icons. The survival menu of /ps might be a good place to have an option for buildmode toggle. Once selected the player could select left or right click to have the buildmode locked for the current server or all. Having it default to disabled would be good so new players/short term players unaware of the problems a locked block might cause won't leave a mess.
Great idea, but I'm not sure how tough that would be to program! But maybe Katy's idea of making the message static would be easier??
My thinking was that the devs don't need to re-invent something for us. There is already a message when /npmode or /bmode is enabled, so how about just letting that stay on for us, if we ask it to? Not everyone wants to clutter up their screens with something else on it, so make it optional like the on-screen compass (which is one of my all time favorite things ever done btw) Now if they have time and want to make a fun new something ... who is to stop them
I noticed there is another group related buildmode message that flashes at the same screen location as the regular buildmode message so a static messsge might cause an issue. Even after starting this thread I have forgotten to enable buildmode multiple times so I'm thinking a big message like the server resetting one aimed at me would be very welcomed. Anytime EMC detects me on smp5 my screen should flash "Turn it on farmer!!" Blockhead joined me yesterday in testing out our new manual mob farm with a focus on enraged mobs. We went up to diff 9 and the shear number of creepers spawning in quickly identified which parts of the floor were not buildmoded.
Remember guys that bmode is only needed when building with the following blocks: ANDESITE BASALT BLACKSTONE BROWN_TERRACOTTA COARSE_DIRT COBBLESTONE DIORITE DIRT END_STONE GRANITE GRAVEL LIGHT_GRAY_TERRACOTTA NETHERRACK ORANGE_TERRACOTTA POWDERED_SNOW RED_SAND RED_TERRACOTTA SAND SOUL_SAND SOUL_SOIL STONE TERRACOTTA WHITE_TERRACOTTA YELLOW_TERRACOTTA all other blocks are automatically protected and do not require the command to be protected. as for ideas probably best to add this to the /ps or the /assist compass -> I do wonder how new players get to learn about /bmode … hopefully not months later after starting a big building project. anyways maybe /ps survival bmloc: none, flashing action bar, persistent action bar, boss bar Ehh ChatGPT helped me word this one… /ps bmsticky or… maybe better keepbm When /ps bmsticky is ON, the player’s /bmode setting will persist even when switching between servers. This ensures that players who prefer keeping /bmode active do not have to remember to re-toggle it every time they switch SMPs. The sticky status would apply until they manually turn off /bmode themselves, or toggle /ps bmsticky OFF. Command Details: /ps bmsticky on → Makes /bmode “stick” across server switches. /ps bmsticky off → Returns to the default behavior (bmode turns off if you leave your current server). also also, not sure this is a thing: but a very big red sentence saying Bmode Is ON or OFF if you used it in the past 20 mins and you reconnected.. pretty sure if you have /bmode logoff and connect back to the same smp, /bmode stays on.
