MapArt Commissions--Prestigious Decorations

Discussion in 'Business Listings' started by DrasLeona247, Sep 8, 2022.

  1. Perhaps you have seen intricate maparts here and there on EMC. Hard to miss, they are among the most impressive decorations for your residence! What looks better than your own likeness in the form of an image in a game made of blocks?

They are made by placing blocks in a square in the Frontier, and then creating a map to capture the aerial view. The image can then be framed on your res! The limiting factor, of course, is time, as each map square requires over 16,000 blocks to be placed in the right configuration.

Well, DrasCorp is proud to present its newest service, MapArts! Together with the artistic help of Progryck and the building help of AmyLeePlayz, there are several options for you to consider.

Given the massive amounts of time/resources needed, I will be limiting commissions to 3-4 to start off with. Additionally, these are general price ranges below. If your build is a simple flag made out of wool (like the pride flags you see around town), it will be much cheaper. However, if your build has a complex gradient with many different blocks/variations, it might be higher. I will discuss options.

    Queue:

    1. Raaynn

    2. Luckygreenbird

    3. JesusPower2

    Options/Prices:

(All materials will be charged separately, but I will do my best to use the cheapest blocks possible)

(Promos may also be accepted instead of rupees, PM for details)

    1 Square: 150-250k

These are a singular map, and are the most common around EMC. Price widely varies depending on complexity, though. This could be cheaper for basic wool maps/flags, or more expensive for gradients/texturing.

    2 Squares: 300-500k+
Horizontal scenic maps, similar to paintings

    4 Squares (2x2): 600k-1 mil+
The most discerning of customers will consider the largest 4-square map. Consisting of over 65,000 blocks, these maps are the largest and most impressive. Given the huge amount of time/effort needed, though, they are the most expensive option.

Custom Weapon/Tool in Single Item Frame: 100k
Mr. daanhu figured out an interesting way to display custom tool images in an item frame--with this option, you can have your own blockified item appear real in EMC! See below for an example.

    Extras--

Custom PhotoShop (combine existing digital images, create backgrounds/gradients) : +50k

    Custom Hand Drawing: +150k
For an extra fee, you can have Progryck draw an artwork for you! This option is available for any map size, but bear in mind details will get lost in the smaller maps.

    Enhanced Staircasing: +500k
I don't like this option, but for the sake of the service will include it. For a hefty fee, we will spend 40+ hours staircasing the map (varying the heights of the blocks) to unlock a multitude of additional colors. This looks amazing for pictures with gradients (see below), but since it takes so long, it is a real pain. Only available on single maps.

    Special Effects/Moving Maps: +?
For only the craziest of ideas, consider having a map with special effects (sparkling stars in the night sky) or a map that has moving images. The map would have to be floating above a res in town (so as to render it in), and would have redstone machines underneath certain places to achieve the effect. This hasn't been attempted before, but is theoretically possible according to Progryck. No clue on pricing (it won't be cheap) as it would depend on complexity.

    Examples:

    Pre-Existing Images, 1-2 Squares

Custom Artwork / 2x2 Square Maps

    Custom Weapons/Tools in Item Frame

Staircasing/Enhanced Gradient Difference (very visible on certain images, barely noticeable on others):

Are these expensive? Yes. Why? Well, it is a bit burning to click your mouse 50,000 times in the desert. For now, they are fun, but adequate compensation for Amy, Progryck and I is needed. Some negotiation is possible, though...these things have never been priced before, hence the ranges. If you are interested, leave a post below with an image and what you want.

  8. Wow, I know you place the blocks but is that just free hand or do you use mods to help create the art?

  9. Mods! It's called Litematica. You insert a schematic file (that is copied from another world, or from online)

Then, in-game it will display a hologram of what you need to build along with a material list, etc. You just go along placing blocks. If you make an error, it'll alert you by highlighting where something was wrong.

Here's a video if you want to learn how to use it--

  12. What do you use to convert an image into a schematic?
  13. Just here to say Thank You ! to the map art team for this first commission!!! I have wanted some art made for deco for years on smp6, and have tried several times to request from various individuals, but in the end they left and none have ever been completed.... until now! Not to mention just how FAST this was drafted and completed for me... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED service, thank you once again. :+1::+1::+1: (second commission already requested) ;)

  14. 1x2 for Luckygreenbird finished! This was relatively more difficult, because bright red requires an ocean of redstone blocks. But, he can now express his fandom for the Nebraska Cornhuskers proudly--

  16. um dras redstone dust ??
  17. Only TNT or redstone blocks work, not dust
  18. I think Amy and I set a new record for speed map-building....this took 1 day!

Definitely my favorite one so far, enjoy Raaynn :)

  20. I'm currently working on the next commission which is a lovely Christian cross, but it reminded me I never made a post about the first (and fanciest) map I made!

If you staircase a map (vary the heights of the blocks), you can unlock more colors. This lets gradients flow more smoothly, especially if you want a "glowing" effect

Some time ago, I wanted to make a map of Arabic calligraphy of "Allahu Akbar"--translates to God is the Greatest in English. A pretty famous (yet often misunderstood) saying. I have a small informational book next to the sell sign at +dras utopia, but basically, the God referred to in Islam is the same as in Christianity or Judaism! Thus, it's a versatile piece of art.

This is what the finished product looked like....took 40+ hours of painfully staircasing and placing dirt under every block
