[Suggestion]Expand world borders in waste ends

  1. With 1.11.2, shulker boxes, and elytra that actually make sense to use, the waste ends have been extensively, well, not mined, but raided.

Which means most villages you find have none or few shulkers left, and it's very hard to find an end ship that still has elytra in it (I managed to find 4 back in February, but none at all in April yet).

This would not neccesarily be a bad thing, after all, these things are intended to be hard to get, and harder when there's fewer of them left, correct?

Well, except .. there are still plenty of them to get in the real/wild ends. Take your elytra and fly out 20K blocks in one of the real ends, and there's still plenty of stuff to get. Take a stack of rockets with you and a stack of XP bottles to repair your mending elytra, and there's a huge end with countless cities and ships to raid.

Except, that's contradicting the reason why we have a waste. Changes to the wild, including the wild end, are permanent, and we have a waste so people don't have to destroy the beauty of the main world to get resources. But that's exactly what's happening in the end now; it's so much easier to find (the only meaningful, end stone and chorus plants don't count) resources in the real end than in the waste that people will get their stuff there.

Expanding the waste end world borders would not make it much easier to get this stuff (flying out 8K or 20K doesn't make that much off a difference, really), but it would protect the permanent world from getting raided. And, in contrast to a waste reset or waste end reset, it doesn't change anything in what's there, so we wouldn't need all the announcements, plenty of time, and "omg I just build XXX there" complaints that a reset normally brings with it.

Right now, the waste isn't doing its job, let's make it work again!
  2. +0 as the waste resets once every 4 months...
  3. The website says it does but it's usually not. Things like version updates often delay them. It would be nice to keep the schedule regardless of updates though. I'm sure it doesn't take a whole lot to reset the waste and even if it is close to an update then there is even more changes to get items.

As far as the border extending.. I don't think it will help this problem. Yes there is more room to mine but they will be picked clean just as fast within the first few days of the reset and then back to waiting months for the reset. And not saying this is a bad thing. The waste is first come first serve. The End is much harder because everything is so spread out and the islands don't even start until 1k+ blocks from main island.
  4. Sorry but I have to go -1 after carefully thinking this over.

First of all keep in mind that we have 9 wastelands (SMP1 to SMP9), have you visited all of those to check if the End worlds have been raided? Because I'm not too sure about that ;)

But the main reason why I'm opposed to this is because there needs to be a challenge in the game. And I'm not too sure that such an expansion will change much. Lets say the waste does get expanded, how long would it take for the next player(s) to suggest that the waste should become even larger because the new area has also been mined out? And if the waste gets expanded again, how long before the next?

All the expansion would do is provide more shulker shells during the next "waste period". But do we really need those?

Some items are rare, and that's a good thing because it keeps the game fresh. It also helps the economy: there are still shops left which sell shulker shells or shulker boxes and I could well imagine that prices may eventually go up. Good for them I'd say.

If these items would remain in shortage after, say, 3 or 4 waste resets then there might be an issue. But I sincerely doubt that is going to happen. History says otherwise...

Thing is: I see parallels when ocean monuments just became a thing. During the first 'waste run' with monuments (note: the waste were even smaller than they are now!) all of them got raided pretty hard. You could forget about finding one on SMP2 and SMP4 (in all fairness: only places I / we looked).

But monuments became pretty common, and after the next waste reset you could buy prismarine in most malls. As a result of that it became much easier to find unraided ocean monuments. These days most players don't even bother anymore.

My guess is that this will also happen with the shulker shells. Right now they're new and the hot thing to have. So obviously there will be a bit of a shortage. But after the next waste reset I think they'll become even more mainstream than they are now leading up to a point where players won't be as driven to raid stuff as they are now.

  5. We're about to reset the waste right after Easter or so. I was making the post last night with the updated schedule. This will solve the issue that you are having.
  6. even with a reset, the Wastelands End could be a little bigger to account for all the empty space that exists, maybe another 10k blocks or so
