  1. Curious about everyone's thoughts on this. Generally the accounts I've seen with permanent protection are folks who are still active but on occasion I've seen some where the player hasn't been online for a year or more and these players have stale residences that don't really have anything going on.

I know we have plenty of reses to go around so that's not an issue, but when an area that is well travelled like the ones around town spawn or around popular public reses don't ever change and they are being protected for players who don't play anymore, do you think it's bad for the server?

  2. While I definitely see your point, as a member who came back to EMC after a very long time, I was so happy to see my res still intact. In fact, if my reses had gone derelict I would have had to convince myself even more to come back. Permanent protection servers a purpose for members whom EMC is not their life, ie most members.

  3. I will be protecting mine as i know there will be times i cannot connect frequently... and in my short time i have seen people go derekict and lose all. I think that would actually cause many to leave and never return...

  4. Also, I would like to point out that a majority of these players have made a very large contribution to EMC by purchasing permanent derelict protection, and those vouchers are not cheap by any means. In my opinion, although they may never return to EMC, it is our duty to protect their reses and preserve them out of respect to their contribution.

  5. yeah man those things werent cheap, nor were they released for too long

*addendum: i do think that this derelict protection should not apply to the wild, after a certain period out there things should go derelict. a long period, like a year and 2 months but still, soem places i know who built the things and it was creeper bait for a long time before grief protection came in, now they are protected forever stuck like that though

  6. I can actually be very short about this: It's not bad, it's a display of honesty.

When you have a residence then no one can tell you what you "should" do with it, no matter where it's located. This shows itself in situations as you describe and I think all it does is demonstrate that we play on a server which isn't perfect (so: you're not always greeted with only majestic & perfectly designed buildings) and most of all: the players wishes for his residence come first.

Seriously: this is why I'm so impressed with one of the first youtube (?) advertisements for the Empire. They show you several residences while telling you "build anything you like" (or something to that extend). More residences with huge & cool buildings are shown (whole palaces) and then...

... suddenly a mostly empty residence is shown with a mudhut. Another text appears: "Anything.".

Does showing mudhuts make the server look bad? No way, it makes it look much more honest. Even players who don't have great building skills are welcome to their residence and to have fun with it. Even if that residence happens to end up in a spawn area.

They're still being sold, but the prices have went up a little (and rightfully so in my opinion).
