With just one server, main.empireminecraft.com, EMC had hit a hitch in it’s growth; technical in-capabilities and the server already keeping track of 1500 residences made it extremely difficult for more to be added. So the solution? Say hello to SMP2!
The second server was launched on the 9th of November 2011, revolutionising MP Minecraft with an integrated multi-server experience, including integrated punishments, vault (inventory), ranks which was surprisingly uncommon for Minecraft back in the day. Originally /tell’s were planned to work cross-server, however that’s only just being coded now! From there on, new servers were released as the player counted demanded them.
When SMP1 stood on it’s own, there was simply a Wastelands (you thought that was new? Nope, it was brought back recently!) and Utopia world. That’s right, Utopia was a world until it’s creation as Utopia1 on the 25th of November 2011.
History Fact: Did you know that SMP1 originally had an ugly, large bedrock wall acting as the barrier! The town was also expanded to what is now 1500 residences from 700.
Have you ever wondered what it was like when a new server launched on EMC? Well, it was very exciting really. On the site, to the right, there was a countdown to the new server launch time, and in later server’s cases supporters were granted early access to its worlds, with Diamond first, then Gold, Iron, before it completely released.
History Fact: SMP8 and SMP9 were launched at the same time.
And from there, we grew into 9 SMP’s and Utopia!
Coming up next time in the Empire History series, we look at how the community and features have evolved, as well as where our server is heading! Stay tuned.
