Hi gang! I think it's safe to say that the Frontier has never looked more appealing than it does now with EMC's anti-grief update. Sure, there are some issues to get around with, we need to get familiar with it, and sometimes it can get a little frustrating ("I just got back from SMPx, forgot /buildmode ") but I also think it works(tm). But there is a bit of a problem: the dreaded Frontier reset area. The area between the red and yellow line which, theoretically, could go up in smoke tomorrow (thankfully for us though the staff do have our best interest in mind, I am convinced that this won't happen without proper warnings). Still... It could. In case you're wondering what I'm talking about, check out this link. /wild west, on SMP2. Although the area between red and yellow is a free for all and can be build, mined, worked, moved and restored it is still basically a "reset area". As such my suggestion: Allow players who have set up some decent builds in the 'reset area' to have them moved "elsewhere". Where 'elsewhere' would be anywhere outside the reset area and onto a non-claimed pristine land. After all (and I think this is one of the things which make the Frontier great): you don't have to establish an outpost in order to have a place of your own to build. Thing is... I think we have a 2 faced problem. On one end I think it's fair: a reset area to help the staff keep the Frontier appealing and looking good without too much effort. If this wasn't a big issue then the whole FCC movement wouldn't have started. But on the other end I also think it's not unreasonable for players to miss out on this reset issue. The area is unprotected (we can build), the Frontier is non-resetting by definition: let's build! And plenty of players have! So I'm wondering if we could find some kind of option for those who want to preserve their efforts, without having to rebuild their entire set up and/or having it go up in smoke? As always with these things: just my 2 cents.
You're warned on the /map even about not building there do to periodical resets. Great idea but It would be hard to move such structures to a suitable spot where heavy land use wasn't a factor. I think if you did build something between the red and yellow border and should want it moved. It should cost an arm and a leg and the only place it can be moved to is a residence. Not further into the wild...That would be unfair to those who traveled farther for build-able permanence.
Frontier wild. the terms kepe confusing. Why did the not call it simple wasteland and wilderness or frontier for the last one. i think acienttower already mixed it. he talks about further into the wild and shelluser talks about frontier.
We're talking about the same place. To be technical both the Wasteland and the Frontier are the wilderness. If you look at the /map it'll back me up. I know it's a bit confusing with the commands being /waste and /wild.
Hmm, /waste and /wild are nmot the same place. /waste get reset every n months. /wild is where outpost are and not get reset. SO not see how it can be the same.
That is due to not changing the commands because players had it built in as a habit. There is both a Wastelands Wilderness and a Frontier Wilderness. There is a Wastelands Nether and a Frontier Nether. There is a Wastelands End and a Frontier End. Each geographical 'world type' has 2 sections. The Wastelands is where you gather resources, thus the resetting feature. The Frontier is where you build outposts and permanent structures (does not reset). Hope that explains it ^
Within the YELLOW border resets can happen in the FRONTIER /wild.......... ShelLuser was SUGGESTING that the builds within that Yellow Border be allowed via Senior Staff Services to be relocated to outside of the reset zone.
