Basically, a way to provide materials for neighbors regardless of the situation. Great for connections - allow only my neighbor to access an underground connection from my residence to theirs - regardless of who that neighbor is, except that they own a specific lot. Example sign on chest (lines 1-4 are lines on chest, numbers indicate what is typed): 1 [Access] 2 2431 3 4 This says that whoever owns lot #2431 (a lot adjacent to mine) can access this chest.
What if I wanted to place an access sign for the owner of 16097, but there was a player also called 16097?
But that stranger has the residence. Which means, this is expected behavior - neighbors change. Basically, a door that can only be opened by the owner or a residence - a door that is at the border of that residence. Yeah, I think you did. Main difference is instead of a player on the access sign, a residence. I've had my residence for more than 3 years. In all this time, I have had new neighbors, but the residence numbers stayed the same. This is primarily for encouraging neighboring lot interaction. Simple modification - prefix the res number with "#", a symbol that (as far as I know) isn't in any Minecraft username to date.
It's for people who want to encourage neighbors to cooperate and build together. For security purposes, I don't think that residence permissions should have this ability - only access signs, and only in town. Edit: For example, I could put bridge-building materials in a chest accessible only by a residence owner. Someday, the items may be gone. Someday, I might have a neighboring connection.
What if I give the owner permission, and the owner goes derelict? Then I'll have an inaccessible chest sitting around, when I'd want the new owner to immediately have access.
Pretty cool idea! I like the idea of interaction with neighbors. Not sure how hard that is to implement but it seems that if all else fails you just put the name of the person in the res.
I'm all for neighbourly interaction but I'm not convinced new players will even find it and if you have to tell them about it you can easily setup a chest just for them as you know their name. I would rather have empires or any of the other myriad things that the devs could add before spending time on adding and debugging this.
