[Question/Opinion] Why do folks like 1.8 combat?

  1. So I keep seeing everywhere (not just on emc) people lamenting the combat changes to an attack with a cooldown.
I guess I don't understand because when I was playing mc that long ago, it wasn't on a server nor with pvp, and I was too young to think about that sort of thing.
And I also guess I don't get it, because, while I'm no mc pvp master, but I do play other pvp games, and let me tell you, I'd rage if I could get comboed into oblivion with very little recourse to fight back.
So, someone help me understand here.
Also, I know mc's combat is still not great as it is.
  2. First, it 's damage can dealt depend on cps (clicks per second) mean if you have high cps, damage will multiped instead of cooldown like current combat
Second, it's suitable for those can do 20cps, create massive damage to opponents
Third, cooldown between attack cause opponents have a chance to take you down, this make some folks discomfort due to loss
Fourth, fast clicking is easier skill compared to custom fighting skills (evade, use fishing rod,...) which tooks many years to pratice with
Example when you hit a mob with diamond sword (unenchanted ones):
-5 hits from diamond sword is 35 heart (this mean 35 heart per second) if you click at 5 click per second (cps)
-1.9 combat cause it to reduce it into 7 hearts only due to cooldown (7 heart every 5 second)
  3. I guess, I'm still confused.
That sounds awful for pvp. It's super unbalanced, all you need to wreck your opponents is an autoclicker, no skill or anything. Then again, lots of people like their pvp that way.
Then for pve, why would I want to break my finger clicking, when I could just jump and swipe once for a majority of mobs to kill them in one hit?
  4. because they don't want to shapern their skills and what they want is wreck opponents as fast as possible
  5. pre 1.9 combat was fast paced, and fights didn't boil down to "who can eat food the fastest".

there was so much more to pre 1.9 combat than just clicking fast, and anyone who uses that argument against it is demonstrating how much they didn't actually know about how to fight in older versions lol. being able to "combo" people required different sets of skills and knowledge about how the fighting system works.
  6. and will you explain a bit about it for me? Cuz I don't understand what skills are required.
  7. knowing where to stand when fighting someone, knowing when to hit someone, being able to accurately track someone's character in the middle of a fight, knowing when to play offensive/defensive, being able to effectively utelize projectiles to disrupt a players movement before and during a fight, knowing which movement keys to press in the middle of a fight to prevent the enemy from fighting back.

all of these often need to be considered quickly, because the combat is so much faster than 1.9. in 1.9 combat most of the fighting is just standing in front of each other with shields and hoping to land a hit every 5 seconds. when you have so much more time to consider things in a fight you really don't need to learn these skills to the same extent.

this is just a short list of many of the different skills that you need to learn and practice to be good at pre 1.9 combat, it really isn't just "clicking fast".

was pre 1.9 combat perfect? no. i agree that the way of hitting by clicking constantly is stupid, but the way it was "fixed" in 1.9 was not the way to go. it changed combat from something fast paced to something so boringly slow that fights can last upwards of 10 minutes with no real change in situation.
