  1. Clearly this change is quite controversial so I’m putting the question to the community: The new auction rules, yay or nay? Feel free to share what you think.

  2. Yes to the no min quantity in items.

I'm not very keen on the no bumping or no advertising.

  3. I like the no bumping but the no advertising may be a bit much, but it's not in my control. EMC will adjust.

  4. i get the no advertising/bumping, but it seems way too broad, like i cant put it in my status update? i cant even advertise it in economy/market chat? what this really seems like is that alot of people are going to win auctions at ridiculous prices because noone else saw it. which means essentially people that do auctions often are going to have to set their starting bid higher. MEANING this is going to cause more inflation
  5. I would’ve preferred that the bumping and advertisement rules were more restrictive rather than removing them altogether, such as allowing to bump auctions in-game and on forums only once a day. Perhaps the 3 hour minimum rule was the issue. I do like the removal of a minimum quantity of items that can be auctioned though!

My opinions apparently a bit unpopular but I do like viewing auction advertisements in-game and seeing them in the recent thread activity on the forums :p Sometimes I’ll see an interesting auction brought to my attention that I hadn’t seen before, despite looking in the auctions subforum earlier. I feel that maybe it was only a small minority of people that didn’t enjoy viewing auction advertisements and they were also the people who were the loudest with their complaints, thus appearing to be a majority.

I know some people are happy with the recent update, and I can fully understand why. Auctions can hog the recent news feed on the forums, and can be a nuisance in-game due to the large amount of auction advertisements. Yet I still maintain the belief that there could’ve been many better possible solutions rather than to remove in-game auction advertisements and thread bumping.

For example, a possible option in-game could be to design a setting that allows players to choose whether or not they would like to view auction advertisements in-game. Perhaps this could be done through adding a filter that would detect website links sent in the Market chat, and filtering those messages for people who choose not to view them in their player settings.

On forums, an idea could be to create a seperate recent activity tab dedicated to auctions and selling threads that’s viewable on the front page. Or, a shortcut tab at the top of the screen that’s easy to access rather than having to go through all the subforums to find the auctions section.

Of course, these are just ideas and I’m in no way knowledgeable about coding and how that works. These ideas are simply possible ideas, some of them may be hard to design and/or implement, which I understand :)

My opinions aside, I love the work that the staff team constantly does!

  6. totally agreed. -but I don't know about the inflation-

  7. Code for filter in game would not work.
Option for extra auction recent activity list isn't feasible.
    Shortcut is being looked into.

  8. liek the logic that auction advertisment threads in market chat became spammy astounds me, i havent seen market chat in a while cause ive been working in the wild but from what i remember it was the same few people spamming their shops and casino's every 5 minutes (of which i can name some names if staff allowed it) i remember seeing auction threads on a much much smaller scale, and usually it was like "mega auctions" or "promo cleanout auction" which most people would want to be involved in or atleast look at.

maybe this has changed in the last three months

  9. Yeah if we're talking about spam people that run casinos (not naming anyone, and some are perfectly fine!) are usually the spammers. In my 3 years here I've never seen more than 1 or 2 people break the bump rules and advertising spam rules for auctions, at least on purpouse. The wrong people are being targeted. Honestly my issue is less with not being allowed to bump and more with being allowed to auction just one item. Auctions that actually sell practical amounts of items are being drowned out. Quality > Quantity.
  10. i dont much mind the bumping, as long as people have SOME way to get the word out that hey im selling this thing if you want it go buy it. but this seems far too broad and unjust and targetted at a group of people that aren't doing anything wrong. liek auction threads already had pretty strict rules and consequences for breaking those rules, now (to me atleast) i dont see a reason to use the auction thread at all, im just going to use the market tab to spam "looking for ____" or "selling a dc of _____" every time im allowed to since atleast that is allowed?

  11. The only thing that bothers me about these rule changes is the no bumping of auctions. I can understand the problem with bumps taking up the recent active threads section, cause it did actually get a little annoying, but I feel like instead of getting rid of that method all together, the restrictions for bumping a thread could be raised to once every 12 hours after the last valid bid.
But it's out of our hands and I trust the staffs' judgment

  12. I was about to leave a comment expressing my opinions, but then I read RainbowPony's comment which pretty much already states everything I wanted to say.

Okay...now that I think about it, maybe I do have a few things more to mention.

I definitely think that the removal of forum bumping is not necessary - and rather, it should be modified in a way that allows players to keep their auctions from being buried under a mountain of threads while also preventing them from spamming the Recently Active Threads section.

    For instance:
Allow a player to bump their thread if no posts (either by themselves or another player) have been made on the thread for at least X hours.

In this situation, X could be replaced with a value found appropriate, such as 12 or 24 hours. With this rule change, players would only be bumping their auctions if a large amount of time had passed since a post was made, therefore severely limiting the amount of auctions being bumped while also allowing the ones being truly buried to move back on top.

I would also like to agree with RainbowPony in expressing my preference for seeing auctions in-game - I have found and participated in many an auction only because I saw someone talking about it while I was playing. For those of us who do not frequently peruse the Auctions forum, this is a great way to see our most recent bidding options.

Krysyy. What if a dedicated chat channel was added for auctions? There could be a channel called "Auction" using the letter A, which would be specifically for advertising and discussing auctions. It would be like the Supporter channel in that only certain players could see it - however, rather than becoming a supporter to access it, one would opt in or out of the channel in their player settings. Players could only see and send messages to the Auction channel if they opted into it.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work coding-wise, and it seems like it would answer all of the problems for both sides of this dilemma - players who would like to see auctions in-game get to see them and discuss them as much as they would like, and players who would rather not see them on their screen don't get bothered at all.

    Thoughts?

  13. It all depends on how you look into this new rule implement change but I think what they are doing isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  14. I feel like it is in our control. If it wasn't then why would staff take our suggestions. They care about what we think so I wouldn't worry. :)

I think we should at least allow in-game chat advertising of auctions that follow the same rules as Shop/mall advertising.

I understand that some people have found auctions as spamming, but the same could be said for forum games or Birthday threads. Why don't we all keep threads equal instead of putting preferences on one type of post or another? But anyways I say people need to be allowed to advertise in someway. Banning adverts is an extreme overreaction to a small problem in my opinion.
