I know that people have already decided the best star wars movie (The Empire Strikes Back). But I wanted to have the people of EMC vote on which Star Wars movie is their favorite. By the way, happy May the 4th!
I 100% preffer watching any Clone Wars episode than the movies, but for fav movie top 3 3-rogue One 2-new hope 1-strikes back
If you haven't watched Star Wars and plan to (which you should), don't read what I'm about to write lol. Go watch them right now. Out of all the original trilogy films, which for me can't be viewed separately, I'd have to say The Empire Strikes Back. Good action-filled plot, opens with one of the most iconic battles scene of all time, Vader is the best Star Wars villain and has plenty of presence, Boba Fett was cool for the two minutes he was alive, R2-D2 and C3PO are properly established as the best on-screen gay robot couple of all time so the movie scores major progressive points, and leaves on a great cliffhanger. The prequel trilogy brought in Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, Darth Maul (the second best Star Wars villain... at least he would be if he had more than ten minutes of screentime) and General Grievous (third best Star Wars villain) are introduced, I genuinely like Jar-Jar Binks with my only complaint being he was there way too much, and it's produced amazingly subtitled Chinese bootleg versions and some amazing memes. Also had great cartoon series spin-offs that accompanied it and Clone Wars was great (these cartoons are why I like Grievious so much tho). However, it was based around a trade war that involved a lot of sitting around and talking and less action - which is cool, I guess, except the dialogue was bad and the scenes were boring to sit through, it has no good characters besides Maul (killed in ten minutes, then shows up in a cartoon because he didn't actually die, then he appears in something else that occurs 400 years before he's supposed to be alive because George Lucas is an idiot), Grievous (who I like because I sat through a dozen hours of him in cartoons where his character is fleshed out, you see him collect the lightsabers from the Jedi he kills; in the third film he's killed like ten seconds after he shows up), and Rex and Ashoka (neither of them are even in the movies, only the cartoons). The action scenes we did get lacked any tension whatsoever, since we knew the characters were going to survive, BECAUSE WE SAW THEM IN THE MOVIES THAT CAME OUT A DECADE BEFORE THE PREQUELS. Obviously not a single damn one of these awful, awful movies that only did well because they piggybacked off a great original trilogy. The sequel trilogy started off strong. A set of genuinely interesting characters, made a shocking move by killing one of the original and most beloved characters, Kylo Ren was interesting, BB-8 is a nice new droid, and I like the fascist symbolism the First Order uses because it just... really adds to what they are and says a lot about what the Empire is IMO. Snoke was an enigmatic and interesting villain. The Starkiller Base was just Death Star 3.0, the third act of the movie was identical to A New Hope's, but it's still a good movie. They had something there. Then they totally ruined it with The Last Jedi which has a first and third act that are just blatant lifts of The Empire Strikes Back's, a second act that was boring and totally pointless, Kylo Ren just became Anakin 2.0 and I don't even want him dead for anything other than his whiney presence to just go away, and I don't want to spoil anything but they messed up Snoke and Luke big-time. Also to understand the events of the first movie you have to read an entire book - it's a good book and you should read it, but it shouldn't be prerequisite for understanding a movie. Not one of these. Also, I get why they did it, since Star Wars got licensed out and absolutely butchered by people who didn't care about the source material more than even Warhammer has, but the sequels got Disney to retcon the entire extended universe (comics, novels, blahblahblah). I wish they would have cherry-picked some that would stay canon. Whatever, I guess; no matter what Disney do to retcon it, the Ewoks were driven to extinction by the explosion of the Death Star and the forest on Endor was burned to the ground. They can't convince me otherwise smh Best thing to come out of the sequels is Rogue One. What a great movie that actually added something to the Star Wars universe, had some pretty good characters, well-written dialogue and talky scenes that were actually entertaining, and the ending was really good and bittersweet. Better than the prequels and sequels combined. Very close tie between this and The Empire Strikes Back, but I'm going to go with the latter.
Wow. I usually don't read these long of messages, but it was good. Thanks for that, Altpunisher! Okay...keep voting EMC fans! Bump!
