PC Controllers?

  1. Hi all!

I am not a proficient gamer, so I thought I'd come to you all with a question.

I play Disney Dreamlight Valley on Steam on my laptop. It comes with default controls (WASD to move, "i" for inventory, etc.). I can't find a menu to change which button does what, so I don't think it can be edited like Minecraft can.

I know the game comes on various platforms - PlayStation, Xbox, etc. I would like to be able to plug some kind of controller into my computer and play with controller buttons instead of the keyboard. Is this something that is easy to accomplish? Does it depend on the game? I do not own any PC gaming controllers but would like to invest in one for this and a couple of other projects. My friends had suggested "8bitdo" so I was looking into getting one of those, but I'm open to suggestions.

Also - would I be able to hook up the controller to Minecraft? And walk around with a joystick instead of WASD? I don't have any kind of gaming console.

I don't know how complicated this is or where to start so all thoughts are welcome! Thank you all <3

  2. To use a controller on games that don't support it, or games that don't allow remapping of controls, I use JoyToKey. It's a free program that allows you to map controller buttons to keyboard presses or mouse clicks. :)
