Okay so I'm getting a banjo...

  1. Hey guys. I have decided to take up the banjo. I've never been good at any musical instrument and I think it will be a healthy pastime for me to take up an instrument. I've decided on banjo simply because I love them.

I was wondering if anybody knew which banjo to go for. I'm looking at an Ozark TB2 resonator standard-scale tenor banjo, which has 4 strings. I've been told that it's a good banjo for beginners. Does anybody have any expertise in the banjo industry? :p

I'm also wondering what to learn on it. I'm aiming to eventually learn:

    Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
Helena Beat - Foster The People
Pumped Up Kicks - Foster The People
Dustbowl Dance - Mumford & Sons
Broken Crown - Mumford & Sons

There's a decent YouTube channel that a guy's made called happybanjodude. It has a few of those songs on it.

If anybody has any useful banjo tips, I'd love to hear them. It'd also be cool to know if you have a talent for a random instrument. :)

  2. I just have unfounded prejudices against banjos as being an instrument for rednecks and 'hicks'. I just figured I should point that out, because I really have no legitimate reason to have anything against banjos or banjo players, lol. :p

So good luck on learning how to play. :) I've attempted learning several instruments myself, but I haven't had the perseverance to get good enough with any of them that it's worth mentioning.
  3. I hope its the N64 version...

  8. I'm British, so I can't fit that stereotype :p

Also, thus far, perseverance has been my main fault.

The new album is brilliant. I've listened to it like every day since it's release :p
