I'm in the process of building a res and i going to make what would appear to be a dungeon. I'm going to make without the spawner. Yet having one in the dungeon would add a sense of authenticity. I wasn't sure if this could be a added Senior Service, service. Placing a mob spawner that's coded for town not to generate any spawns. But have the monster inside spinning, without it actually spawning Monsters. Once it's placed, it's placed. Just like road edits.
Spawners are entities that can cause quite a bit of lag, sadly even without the spinning mob inside and particle effects. Sorry to kill the vibe d:
Spawners are blocks, not entities. Plus, there is the entity limit count if it were an entity. Plus, there would probably be a limit to how many spawners are in a res, plus a token cost.
Your both right, in a fashion: A monster spawner has a block entity associated with it that holds additional data about the block. The block's block entity ID is MobSpawner. (as per: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Monster_Spawner )
