Well, I just tried out a buncha random seeds for singleplayer Minecraft. Here are some of them, all named after some sort of Disgaea theme (obsession lol): -"The Overlord's Castle" It's got a crudload of coal at a nearby cave, and a good hilly-flatland area and a neat forest to boot. -"Maderas5" This place has an unruly large cave system. Dig, and you will find something. Iron and coal can be found at a minimum of 6 blocks to the bottom of the surface. There are plenty of trees in your starting forest to help provide wood, too.
