A Beginner's Guide to Taking and Uploading Screenshots

Discussion in 'General Minecraft Discussion' started by AusQB, Jul 16, 2012.

  1. Step 1 - Capturing

    Keyboard shortcuts:

    F2 - Takes a screenshot
F1 - Removes the UI (Note: While this is better for artistic screenshots, it's typically necessary to leave it on when taking photos of perpetrators so that their name is visible.)
    F11 - Go fullscreen for a nice high-resolution image
F3 - Displays debug information and player coordinates
    Step 2 - Locating

Open up the Run program (Windows key + R, alternatively enter "run" in the Start menu search bar) and enter "%appdata%" (without the quotes), then go into the .minecraft\screenshots folder.

Open Finder, click on your username, Library, Application Support, minecraft (not .minecraft).
    Step 3 - Uploading

If you want to attach the file to a post on EMC, use this method and ignore step 4:

When making a post, click on the Upload a File button. This requires you to manually navigate to the Minecraft folder, so you can either move the screenshots to a more convenient location and use that, or just go to "C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\screenshots" for Windows or the equivalent directory for Macs from step 2.
Note: To access the Minecraft folder on Windows you will need to be able to see hidden files and folders. It's a little different for each version of Windows so just Google it.

If you want to post the image itself, you will need to upload it to an image hosting site. I recommend Imgur, but you can also use sites like Photobucket or Imageshack.
    Step 4 - Posting

Once uploaded, simply get the image URL and paste it in the post with BBCode or the Insert/edit image button. Most image hosting sites typically offer a variety of different URLs to suit your needs.

If you just want the plain image, the URL will look like this (using an Imgur link as an example):
The image will be resized automatically.

If you want the image to link to the full resolution version (instead of expanding in the post), just add URL tags:
  2. Don't we already have one of these? But thanks I guess, haha.

  4. This is really handy!
  5. That is more of a guide for sending your screenshots to staff members for reporting players.

Besides, I didn't see it anyway because I searched the forums for "screenshots" not "screenshot".
