   Just remember to wear a mask ... the dust throwing up into the air can be damaging for your lungs...
   
   I would also recommend box cutters, they ease slicing the carpet; the only challenge may be nails/staples holding the carpet down.

   Thanks for the advice! We are ripping up the carpet and using the wood that was underneath it.

   Yeah - I had to rip up my carpet to put in lamanent hardwood floor over it :p
   
   Before we put the wood down - there was this padding we rolled out ... idk if it's for insulation or to help with vibrations...
