Don't look at it as failure, look at it as progress. Look at it as if you just aren't accepted for the time being :)
I'm going to tell you this because you're a good person. The fact that you even want to be a moderator precludes your ability to become one. and trust me, it's not fun. you won't be inherently liked, even by all the staff members. you become a staff member to help the server, not yourself.
if you were worried about your own station or happiness, becoming a moderator would be the last thing on your mind.
