Been there once for like 3 days, so probably not the best guide, but i fully recommend TripAdvisor - great app. The Iron Curtain/Spy/ museum near the old checkpoint is cool, as well as seeing the wall, if you would like to visit what was kept. Also, many places with WWII and Holocaust memorials if you would like to visit them.

Really recommend trip advisor for it, believe you can download the area even, so it can work partially without cellular data. This will help you find restaurants from quick and cheap to fancy of what you like. All of the museums I visited were impressive in their own niche. Do plan ahead of what you would like to do.

As in any other touristy city- don’t walk in sketchy places at night and stick with your group. Download ahead of time English-> German google translate to use without cell data

Also, have a more secure purse/handbag, as it’s a tourist place. When we want, my dad’s pants was cut in his wallet pocket, and we didn’t notice when it happened. He had a double side pocket, so nothing was stolen. But for your purse, spring snap clips for the zippers so that it’s harder to open them. And over the head/crossed so it’s harder to snatch

Don’t have all your eggs in one basket (for your money/credit cards) - don’t let your phone be your wallet. If you loose one, you shouldn’t loose everything… I usually leave an 2 out of my 4 credit cards in my carry-on/ hotel (hidden of course) for emergencies… but it helps prevent unfortunate situations

General travel tips, but yeah hopefully informative. Berlin is definitive a great place to visit, but as any other big city, it has its unfortunate side, so just be safe and have fun!

depends, are you more for museums, architecture, or parks?
I suggest Alexanderplatz and its TV tower, the Pergamonmuseum (and the whole museum island), Brandenburgertor, if you have time the Sanssouci.

There are a few wall museums, the one I prefer is the memorial on Bernauer Straße.

Thank you both for your input :O

I'm planning to keep it balanced between museums and sight seeing :D

I've been re-learning German so think I'm confident enough to hold a conversation, but will make sure I download Google Translate just in-case I lose phone signal.

Having lived in both London/Cardiff I know what you mean about dodgy bits of the city/thieves but I've never heard of thieves using knifes to cut pockets/strings! I'll make sure to use the info when packing what to take - and I always spread things out for safety. Travel insurance is a must too!

Our hotel is by Hackescher Markt so we're within walking distance of a few of the big sights - it's just trying to narrow it down to which ones are definite and which ones are maybes :P Going to make sure my list has options for both good/bad weather :)

in terms of parks, you have Tempelhof (the airport used during the airlift) that got turned into a park a while ago, then of course there is the Tiergarten
    have fun! :)
