Software development is no where near as easy as take idea > code idea > deploy idea.

Also note that the linked development system is based on a 40-50hr work week, not after you get home.

In addition to all of this, studies have shown that for optimal software quality, 20-25% of the time spent "creating" the software should consist of just clearly and thoroughly laying out what it should do.

Actually coding the software can often times be the shortest part of the process. Testing (especially in an MC situation) takes up a large portion.

And (maybe) finally, in the real work world, 2/3 projects are axed or don't make it through testing. I would say that EMC has a very efficient system when you take into consideration all of the details surrounding it.

I'm one of those people. I know development takes time (I've developed things myself.) and I also realize that developers have lives outside of work. However, our last update was over a month and a half ago. Making an update, even a small one, does not take this long.

Programming =/= development. Programming is a very slight portion of development.

As with all informative and reasonable things, the people who truly need to see and understand this never will. :(
