British people hate it because our humour doesn't revolve around those types of jokes at all, more on the sarcastic and making fun of everyone and everything part, so it gets annoying af when we see these unfunny jokes popping up everywhere :P
I'm actually dating a British boy, not all british since he hates tea (joking), and I actually do much prefer the witty humor rather than the so called "funny" yolks come about. But still, funnny or not, people don't really need to take it so dang seriously like their life depended on it.
