I don't think anyone wants to potentially be put in the position to decide whether another man is caged based on your decision. Ruining their life. That's not a decision I would want to make.
Especially as a juror sitting there being presented "evidence" with people trying to convince you that something happened of which you truly have no way of knowing if it is true. It sounds like sadistic masochism to me. I would never do that.
That's the exact reason why if I ever get called up to do it, I will refuse (which is probably a criminal offence, but whatever). I don't know that person. I have no idea what evidence is true and what isn't. Its not for me to decide what will happen to somebody for the rest of their life.
