(Suggestions) Vault improvements

Discussion in 'The Suggestion Box' started by chickeneer, Dec 16, 2024.

  1. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the ability to cycle through vaults without having to type /vault 1 /vault 2 etc. Maybe within each vault is a clickable arrow which allows the user to cycle to the next vault. Or, say you type /vault 1, when ESC it closes to normal /vault GUI to show the other available vaults - this could even be a toggleable setting.
  2. Sometime in 2019 (I think it was the 1.14.3 version), chests were no longer able to have a glitched 7th row for buttons. The only way we could have buttons in vaults is if we lose a row in the UI and limit vaults to 5 rows, which I believe wouldn't happen.

To address your second idea, if you type /vaults and then enter a page from that GUI, hitting ESC will bring you back into the vault list GUI.

  3. /vault n (vault next)

    /vault p (vault previous)

    /vault l (vault last)

Exist, in case you weren’t aware.

—> but yes it was briefly discussed

Also retyping chickeneer’s questions regarding if you have any specific suggestions:

    “Like what's the user experience?”

For example, do we permanently loose slots to display the arrows shrinking the vault sizes

  4. Triphora's EMC_Utilities can do this ;)
  5. yeah, but how about having it built-in?
  6. Are you talking about vaults having built-in buttons to move from vault-to-vault instead of needing a mod for that? If so, please give this a read:

  7. yeah, we discussed that with Chickeneer already in the first 4 messages in this thread
  8. We totally 'could' shrink the vault page down so that the buttons are in the 6th row. Leaving only 5 rows usable. But that would open back a permanent option for the navigation - with some enhancements that would exceed what is possible by a mod. (Could shove the excess items into a new vault page - or mail to the user; there are options).

I almost would need to create a poll to make that decision. I could draft up a sample of what that could look like to make an informed decision. Some of this is all just the brainstorming phase to see what new ideas are out there. And if I have to convert all of the vault pages anyway - then I might as well also set it up for the future 'ideal' implementation.

  9. What I’ve seen in another feature on another server, was that there was a single slot occupied, and when you clicked on there, a navigation UI would appear on the 6th row… (9th column I think actually…)

so icons/heads/glass panes would hide temporarily 6th row for buttons (but items would still be there on the background if you toggle off the navigation menu)

is it worth the effort, than just extending vault pages 🤷‍♂️

  10. I mean taking up 1 column is definitely less lost slots (6) as opposed to the bottom row (9). So capacity of 48 vs 45 from the original 54.
The *single* slot is totally possible also.

Thanks for bringing up those options. I could see a poll (with examples) consisting of the following.
    • No buttons (same as is).
    • Row Option
    • Column Option
    • Single nav button

  11. There's previously mentioned about the ability to assign a vault slot to a particular player. I'm somewhat against that idea. Better suggestion: treat empire outposts as its own entity. That would allow all who belong to a particular outpost to access. Also, when a new outpost is created, the outpost vault would start with 5 vault slots. To increase the number of slots, when an outpost player receives a vault voucher reward from voting, allow that player to either increase their own vault or the outpost's vault. Also, outpost players can purchase vault vouchers via any purchase method that is available for any MC player.

  12. Vault Favorites (or bookmarks, pins, saved, star system- which ever synonym is familiar to you =P)

opens a /vaults style UI (possibly Dispenser sized, Hopper Sized, or Single chest sized) which you can edit and place your Favorite (or most used vaults there

Or possibly the /vaults first row is changed toward displaying these.

  13. throwing more ideas here, many overcomplicating things... but throwing either way... ;)

    1. Vault Groups

    /vault collections/groups

lets say I'm on a building project, and my materials are in pages, 10-19, 55-66

system for me to make a group of these vaults, and allowing me to (scroll) through these while browsing this collection...

if vault permissions (multiplayer vaults) also become a thing... -> allow these collections to be shared to players, friends, empires via permissions.

    2. Inter Vault sorting - and item automations

use case 1: anytime I put dirt in any vault page, it automatically transfers (if space is available) into /vault dirt1 through /vault dirt9

use case 2: Shift all empty vaults to the 'right' 'higher' (towards /vault 255),
and all the ones filled to the left/lower - towards /vault 1)

    3. Intra Vault Sorting
If we are going to add a 'nav menu' - one of the slots could be saved to sort the items within the vaults

    4. Vaults UI having a filter button
it has been said for a way to find half empty, or fully empty vaults, but a way to visualize this could be for a button in the /vaults UI to shift into View All, Partially Filled, Empty

Ideation for New Features Inspired by Other Apps

Here are some ideas based on features from chat apps, productivity tools, and other games:

    1. Pinning System:
      • Introduce “pinned vaults” for easy access, similar to pinned chats in messaging apps.
      • Allow players to save frequently used vaults in a dedicated menu.

    2. Activity Logs:
      • Include logs for vault transactions (like audit trails in collaboration tools).
      • Players can view who accessed or modified shared vaults.

    3. Tagging and Categorization:
      • Enable players to tag vaults with custom labels (e.g., “Building Materials”).
      • Allow searching or filtering based on these tags.

    4. Dynamic Previews:
      • Implement preview tooltips (e.g., hovering over a vault shows contents).
      • Add compact UI overhauls inspired by inventory management mods.

    5. Vault Themes or Skins:
      • Allow aesthetic customization (e.g., themes, icons) to differentiate vaults.
      • Support customization tied to supporter tiers.

    6. Vault Subscriptions:
      • Introduce temporary vault expansions or premium vault slots as a subscription.

    7. Event-Based Vaults:
      • Enable limited-time vaults for special events (e.g., seasonal or community projects).

    8. Integrated Notifications:
      • Alerts for vaults reaching capacity, vault activity, or predefined triggers (e.g., low stock of certain items).

    9. Dynamic Resource Allocation:
      • Allow setting overflow rules where items automatically move between linked vaults.

    10. Gamified Achievements:
      • Add achievements tied to vault usage (e.g., "Filled 50 Vaults").
  15. havnt read what many have said in the comments, how about a feature to condense items, you may have 7 cobble stone on pages 1,6,17 and with a simple command all those random cobblestone goes into any available slots
and why not make more vault pages?

  16. I like the idea of sharable vault pages but not personal vault pages. I sometimes struggle understanding the permissions given to friends and adding that to sharing vaults makes it worse, probably to the point I won't use them. I already decline some friend requests due to my lack of understanding of what they can and can't do.

The idea of having friend vaults and empire vaults sounds useful especially if someday we have access to those vaults from the empire in the frontier as long as they are seperate from personal vaults.

  17. I would love to be able to share my vault pages with my alts.

  18. One task that I often do, a lot, is use the vault to move bulk items from one server to another. I usually end up doing 4 rows instead of a full DC because it's slightly faster. It would be great to be able to deposit or withdraw as many items as possible of a given type from the vault, either one page of the vault or all pages at once. I already do a command to open the vault, so if instead I can just do a command to deposit or withdraw, it saves all the other time.

Another frustration is when my vaults become clogged up with miscellaneous items and then I have to withdraw them one by one. It would be cool to be able to withdraw or deposit everything in one command.

So combining these together, it's similar to the idea that others have suggested of a deposit or withdraw command. You could specify a page, range of pages, or all pages, and specify an item, or all items.

For the pagination idea, I think as long as you had a way to toggle it on/off, and didn't change the behaviour for any current players, it should be fine. ie New players could have it enabled, and old players could have it disabled, and it could be toggles. With the arrows, you have 52 slots left accessible. Maybe items could still be stored in the arrow slots, but just not show up, and maybe the lore of the arrow could say what item was there. Or maybe there's no need to have arrows at all, and just clicking those slots (bottom left/bottom right) moves between pages. Normally a player doesn't click the bottom left or bottom right slot by itself except when they want that exact item. You could have three possible modes supported. Visible, Covert, Disabled.

Thanks so much for all the hard work that's going into this!
