[Suggestion] Milestone Promos

  1. So I was recently thinking about the current promo system, in which either everyone gets a promo, or it's randomly given out via drop parties. Aside from the boss items, of course.

    Adding on to the boss items, what if there were milestone promos that were given as trophies for reaching specific goals?

    As in, kill 20 Marlix's and get an even better Marlix bow that has Flame IV, or some other longbow.

    Or, deflect 1000 creeper explosions with a shield and get a Defender shield with Unbreaking and Thorns (does thorns even work on a shield? could that be implemented into emc?)

    OR, how about killing 100 Elder Guardians, and then receiving a Nautilus Shell promo that gives you 30 seconds of Dolphin's Grace when activated? Would be similar to the Turkey Trotters!

    Or, mine 1 DC of say, copper ore, and then trade the DC for a lightning rod promo called "Copper Master". To trade it, you'd place the DC of ore in a vault page, submit a form on the forums (like vouchers) and then an admin would replace that with the promo.

    The main idea I have is, promos to reward specific milestones and encourage a task or grinding of something.

  2. I’m not sure about the milestone promos but the nautilus shell promo idea with dolphin speed is one you should fill out here.. http://emc.gs/suggestpromo perhaps for a summer or spring break type of promo event.

  3. I want to highlight this aspect because this is something that has historically never been a goal of EMC's direction/mission. Therefore I don't want the community to necessarily think in this manner.

    When evaluating this suggestion, it may also be difficult to evaluate the purpose of rewarding this in the sense of a "promo". I encourage the thought of "challenge reward" as an alternative definition to focus on.

    Then some discussion items:
    • What are some true challenges in EMC that should and can be rewarded in a manner that it fulfilling for the server and the player simultaneously?
      • Why would these be fulfilling to the player?
      • Are there negatives to rewarding the task in a repetitive sense?
    • Should a reward system be allowed to be repetitive/grinding?
      • Would there be more benefit to a one-time higher goal with a higher reward setting?
      • This would align with the current voter item system.
    • At what level do we limit items?
      • Should these be items that are not obtainable in-game or just a different way to attain an in-game item?
