Old structures, needle towers, structures from permabanned players/delinquent players

  1. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but there are things that are simply in the way. I see areas near the outpost that has bombed buildings either demo'd by creepers or a half baked maker who decided against his own work littering the area of smp9. I actually spent time repairing holes all around the area, only for more people to dig it out, put stuff there, and then abandon it. Since the grief protection, I moved my works near the west (already got grieffed by some jerk who stole my stands) and for the most part its protected. I'm trying to make it look good, but even where I built I got these towers that are one block wide and just pointlessly going up and maybe to the east and just stops randomly with nothing else there. I also got some dude who was on for one day, one WHOLE day, and never returned after digging some large pointless hole around where I'm building. I also got random one block wide holes randomly scattered about that I fell into. The point is, I'm paranoid about griefing stuff so I tend not to do much to the things around and mark holes that I plug so that whoever put it there can find it. TL;DR, will staff put a limit to how long they will let these unused one block towers, mud houses, abandoned structures (meaning somebody got banned or they outright quit or don't care) keep standing? Can we do something to get rid of things that are wrecked outright or simply in the way or plug holes or cave entrances that have since long been abandoned? I get that some people like Deathtomb who had great structures that are appealing and I have a few myself scattered about that I moded to make look like it held a story that I visit and maintain from time to time. I guess that needs discussion on what is really abandoned or eye sores or in the way. That's why this thread is here. What are your opinions. Staff always welcome to just set their foot down and squash this immediately.
  2. Do you build and repair terrain in build mode? If yes, at least after some time of repairing and reterraforming, it should be safe from most anyone.

Not to mention if in build mode creepers do not impact it either I do not believe.

Stinks you have to live in such fear... I've been hard at work on my own small place with some family and friends and I'd hate to see it really altered as well... though anything new or repaired has been done in build mode so only a limited few can impact any of the build.
  3. It's a very delicate issue.

As a rule of thumb: when pointless structures are actually hindering your buildings (for example: you build a house somewhere and only a few blocks away from it you'll find (protected) 1 or 2 block wide towers) then I'd definitely check /staff, and ask them if they could look into it and maybe help you out.

    But others... That's tricky.

No offense taken, and likewise on my end, but you can also move a bit further away. I know that this doesn't solve the issue at hand and like you I'm also not trying to be a jerk about it, but it is true.

Right now I'm enjoying an outpost on the SMP9 Frontier which is literally in the middle of no where and yeah... No worries about any ruins at all (not yet anyway :D).

I trust that you reported this? If not then please do. If you get griefed then always get staff involved. Use /staff to see if someone is online and ask them to investigate. That can help them to take actions against those griefers.

The digging isn't easily solved. People dig, though they should be doing that in the waste of course. Those pointless buildings... Well, what I said above: try to get staff involved.

But most of all: it might help to find a place on your own and establish an outpost there. This will give you full control over your area and because of the rules it will also be far enough out to avoid issues with others who try to build near your buildings and stuff.

Well, the Frontier is a non-resetting world which basically implies that stuff won't be removed "just like that". Even if a player is banned there's always a chance that they will find themselves getting unbanned again.

And another important thing: how sure are you that those ruins aren't being used? For example to act as cover for something which is dug in further down? There's a ruin in the SMP2 Frontier which has been build by players who are long gone yet which I partly revived with protected blocks (more or less). At first sight it's a staircase into more chaos but there is a little secret there as well.

If staff were to decide that this building needs to go then that would leave me with a problem. And I'm quite the active player ;)

Just wondering though: are you aware of the reset area around the Frontier outposts?

For example, check this out, the center outpost of the SMP9 Frontier. The red square marks the protected area, us players can't do anything there. The yellow square marks the so called reset area. Theoretically that area is open to be reset at staffs discretion.

But yeah... My first step would be to contact staff in-game and ask for their help.
  4. Thanks for responding. Now it is true that I can move my stuff out. As I said, I have outposts scattered around far enough away not to be bothered unless somebody is determined. Then again, I see just how ugly the areas near outposts are, I see the handy work of a few people from other servers, and wanted to make SMP9 more notable with great works that can be seen by any how visit. The point of building closer was because I desired it to be a heavy traffic visited area. Griefing is not too much an issue since I glassed up the stands. I reported it already, but staff cant figure out who stole my items because a stand is an entity, not a block, therefore they can't see who did it. Same for a boat they stole.

I get how ruins can cover for other buildings. I intentionally ruined some old builds (EDIT: old builds that are MINE) and posted signs like a story of people fleeing a cataclysm which gave it a rich story. I also created half buildings and broken structures near the area because it is going along with my theme story builds of a place that got raided by the ancestors of Momentus' giants and partly explains zombies and skeletons. I'd hate for people to somehow misconstrue what is happening there. I also get how a small crappy house can be on top of an underground mansion. If both are built by the same individual or is in use by more than one person I get that. Also, my place is well outside the yellow zone, even though I wish I could add that area to my story themed builds, but wont due to the dangers there of and the place is littered with broken builds. Also, that one you showed me needs a reset. I remember it being dug out for glass waaay before the wastes were even thought of.

  5. BUILDMODE: what a Godsend. I repair now with build mode, but started way before that was a thing. I just couldn't stand those holes and the wrecked areas. I can't over travel or abuse it by filling every hole I see since people might build stuff further out that I haven't gotten to yet. Good luck with your builds.
