A couple of ideas....

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by PetuniaFigtree, Dec 13, 2016.

  1. I can't help but be dismayed by the decline in the number of players in the past few months. Many players want PvP; since EMC already has the frontier for protected outposts and waste for digging up everything in site (but still with build protection), what about starting up a new one, just on one server to test it out, where PvP is allowed? Let us go crazy with wars of destruction and death! Maybe if two existing frontier outposts want to go to war they can do it there! No protection, anyone going in there to build goes in knowing they need to hide their base good (it's really fun to try and build a big base that nobody can find!) And allow them to raid each other, maybe just offer locked chests but allow stealing and razing....I'd go there, it is the only thing I miss from my pre-EMC days!

Also, for the Frontier, can't somebody wave a magic wand and come up with some kind of overlay to the frontier maps showing claimed areas? It would be very helpful to players looking to found a new outpost far away from everyone else!
ShelLuser, LtCaptainMe and ThaKloned like this.
  2. I give this a +1. It's an effective idea to make EMC have more interesting PvP and may get new people attracted to the server.
  3. If PVP and griefing is allowed in one world, players, especially newer ones, will think they can grief in any world.

  4. As you yourself stated about your pre-EMC days suggests that you are aware that this type of interaction can be found on other servers outside of EMC. If I am not mistaken, they are a dime a dozen. Personally, I don't share the same joy others find in death. Even the EMC hosted events that claim to have 100 Blizz Ards, Marlixes, and assuredly death do not appeal to me. I get that some like this, and this suggestion is most likely why they do the kind of events I just mentioned.

If I want death, I would be playing Call of Duty, Halo, or Gears of War. The goal here is to survive. I suppose it is there too, but they have so much more interesting ways to die there. :)

Stealing? Killing? Somehow these just don't equate with my perception of a family friendly server. I don't like to be negative, so I keep my votes similar to my name, and feel this only warrants a Zero.

As for the magic wand on the frontier, it is called search out the dark / black areas of the live map. And surely if you go beyond 50k out you will minimize your potential for Outpost overlap.
  5. I like the idea of an /smpX where no rules apply. Man vs Creeper, Creeper vs The World.....Messages would need to be blasted upon entering and exiting the WAR ZONE.

On the other hand, I can't see myself wanting to dedicate any time to this "no rules server". For one thing, I'd hate making a survival outpost with others just to see it found and destroyed while I slept at night.

    It's a LOVE/HATE idea...........

This can be good and bad.

Besides, there are already PvP arenas on 6.
  7. The idea its self I personally think could be a bit fun, although like said before, newer players may not understand which things are grief able. If something like this was implemented instead of a chat message perhaps a confirmation box to help get everyone to read and understand the rules.

So the idea +1, if people weren't stupid +1 the implementation would have to be superb to get this understood
  8. Up front, -1.

EMC has been a non-PvP server since day 1. And that, plus strong anti-grieving efforts, brought me here in 2012. Before then, I tried playing multiplayer like I do now on EMC, but fighters/PvPers and griefers were my severe antagonists. I got very frustrated whenever I saw my work griefed. And when a familiar PvPer logged on, I typed strong language/swearing at them. I couldn't stand the destruction.
My two main villains on the server have no evidence of connecting to EMC at all. So, stating their rough usernames from 2011/2012 might be ok.

For PvP in general, yes, I'm well-aware that a good number of Minecraft players like it. However, I've seem unhealthy attitudes in communities around significant violence, including Minecraft's PvP sub-community and PvP fighting games. The emphasis of creation, and not destruction, on EMC is what I believe formed this pleasant community.

From what I know of human psychology so far, many of the behaviors and thoughts of people fighting derive from survival instincts or norms. If there's a threat, the body will prepare for either a "fight or flight" response.
  9. Just to clarify, I don't like death or destruction either. However it would be interesting to have a friendly war with another outpost - I would build my fort of dirt and then it wouldn't matter, I already have a very nice outpost that I have spent a lot of time on and I would die if it was blown to bits. I just think it might spice things up to have a war zone somewhere. And I think something like that might appeal to that crowd we dont want in the frontier tearing stuff up. Probably a majority of the griefers are youngsters, the family-friendly atmosphere mainly applies to oldsters like myself, in my experience. I*m sure there are exceptions, I just wanted to throw the suggestion out there to see what the general feel is for it! It could even be the place to ban them to for griefing (you are only allowed in the War Zone)..

As for black areas on the map, that doesn't help. If I want, for example, to see if there are any claimed plots surrounding my own outpost, I would need to see the boundaries clearly on the map so I can either claim them or even to be sure I am not building on someone else's area - it's hard for me with my simple mind to figure out how far I already own. I want an overlay of 5k blocks, (my outpost center and 2.5 k each side) there must be something out there hehe.
  10. I do like the idea of having a pvp map, instead of small pvp arenas. I think it would be cooler.

    EMC =/= Factions
    NuclearBobomb and ForeverMaster like this.
  11. EMC is a no PvP SMP server. I personally love PvP, but if I want to go out into a waste land and raid other bases I go to a generic faction server. Yes EMC could pull in new players but are players who constantly want to grief, steal and raid the type of people we want? What about EMC's custom coded town that would be practically useless on this server? You're suggesting a factions server and EMC does not need factions.

Alot of the PvP community are toxic too, do you want people like that coming on the main servers screaming and balling because people won't go over to the server with them, or they died, or claim someone is hacking?

Hackers also come frequently with faction servers, we do not want hackers on EMC.

Not to mention new servers cost money.

  12. I'd have to go -1 on this, sorry.

One main reason: I've seen the backlash and drama which ensued when Chin was holding his UHC events. The drama dramatically declined (a little wording pun intended there) but only after Chin had set up some specific rules. One of which was that it was no longer a free for all (teams always banding together) but players were forcibly mixed.

With that in mind I can only shudder at the idea of all the drama which might start when players are put into such a free for all.

Previous players have worded my other concern about this idea already, so I'll just leave that ;)

Now, this may not help you directly but one way to find buildings is to check the map for unblotted areas. If the area around you is black then you can be pretty sure that you won't have much to worry about neighbours. Maybe a tip?

Sorry but EMC is not a PVP server, Even with the PVP areas on smp6, Not many people go there as they joined EMC for the fact that there is no pvp.

What if someone was in the PVP world and did not know and was killed, or what happens when people start getting banned for pvp everywhere as its in one world...

The issue that rises with this, is that many players that have private bases do not want players to be able to find out who owns them, and find where the base that they are trying to hide are....
    ForeverMaster and ShelLuser like this.
  14. With the new frontier grief protection in place (and working pretty good from my experience so far), I don't think the need for having hidden bases is such a big issue anymore. This could maybe be an optional feature (do you want your base perimeter marked on the map feature? Yes/No)
  15. Its not the anti grief, but the fact of what's at your base. I dont lock chests and on top of that, one base is all mob farms private.
If it was a option, I could see player's find loopholes and find them...
