    No, I would be installing the hack/mine mod and striking them down with lightning! (BTW hack/mine AMAZING mod, comes with the technic installer)

    Spiders and cave spiders usualy attak to defend themselves in sunlight, it must have been a bug, also plaese post the texture pack
