Hello everyone. Today, I was surfing the useless Internet, and I stumbled upon a video of a bunch of giraffes eating ice cream... Wait, that's not the point of this thread. What I meant to say is I was surfing the still useless Internet, and I was simply looking at different ways to set up a multiplayer Minecraft server so some of my friends who live in Europe and I can play together on a server. They don't want to set it up, and they left it to me. I've tried multiple methods to start up my own server, however none of them seem to work! It'd be fabulous if you could give me some tips for a starter to opening up a server. Thanks again! Caden
Did you try letting the ice cream eat the giraffes? If you want to make a server for you and friends its a process i tried and failed at, complicated but i think i did things quite well but i must of went wrong somewhere. I've read several things and know you need to download some program specifically for hosting, which is on the minecraft website i believe. As well as that you have to open ports in your router settings, and also find your LAN Ip too and change some settings with that. Its all basically to enable your Local Area Network to communicate outside of just your local area. Let me try and find a video for you
I presume you mean the free option? I'm not entirely sure on how to do it, but I do remember my brother and his friends somehow set up a multiplayer server they could play on. It was years ago, so I don't know if it would still work, but it used "Logmein Hamachi" to connect somehow. I know that's probably not very useful, but it might help
Maybe you could try asking them for help too. Its complicated and annoying i know that much, i mean on console it takes a button push and you got a server. Pc is just complicated. Just a note though, it would only work within a certain range, if you are countries apart this whole thing probably won't work. You need to download the Server thing from here https://minecraft.net/download As for a tutorial video there is plenty on youtube, you will have to find one for the version of minecraft you are using. I can't send a link to one because i don't know what version client you use. But theres plenty of tutorial videos, in the videos you will see you need to server program i put a link for above, and they will also go through the whole port forwarding stuff too. I think it would be too complicated for someone to post a whole tutorial on here, unless they have a lot of time and patience, its best to find a tutorial video on youtube and try your best to follow along, handy as well since if you encounter any errors other people are bound to of asked about it in the comment section. I know its much help but i think thats the most you will get out of anyone. And its probably this complicated since they sell servers, they want to make it as hard as possible to make a free one so they can sell more. try and see if you can get any info from your brother though, if he has done it before it would be of more help to you.

It can be confusing, but i understood it all eventually, and i had no clue how to do any of it. I'm sure you will be able to figure it out, if not keep asking on here or in Rl. Someone is bound to know how.
