  1. I thought it would be really cool to build a giant railway many kilometers long.

It would be built on SMP3, as decided by the voting that has already taken place. The exact location within the frontier is still open for suggestion.

Everyone who wants to help will be assigned sections in 100 block lengths. You are responsible to ensure that the rail connects smoothly without stopping from the start point to the end point, and the entire route is safe. You are free to add loops and features as long as this criteria is met. You may sign up for a maximum of 2000 blocks.

Below is the sign up. If you fill this out, you are agreeing to build that much track at the location which will be assigned to you somewhere in the frontier on SMP3. You will have the 9 days between December 3rd and December 12th to build your section.

    Timeline:
    November 12th-November 20th: SMP Voting
November 20th-December 1st: Building Sign Up
    December 1st-December 3rd: Sections Assigned
December 3rd-December 12th: Build Your Sections

  2. Server has been decided (SMP3).

I have decided to reduce the section sizes to allow more people to participate. I think 500 blocks may be a bit ambitious for some people. You can now sign up for a section as small as 100 blocks in length.

You have until December 1st if you would like to build a section.

There has been no suggestion regarding the location as of yet, so it is wide open.
  3. what design are we talking? is it a regular rail or an up sized one? is there an application template? where is it going to be built?
  4. The design is up to you. The only requirement is to get from point A to point B. The points will be a certain number of blocks apart depending on how many you can commit to. If you commit to 0.5km, then they'd be 500 block apart. At the end of those 500 blocks would be someone else's section, which they would design differently. In the end I hope to make it a giant loop that you could ride around and see all the cool tracks everyone built.

Application template is in the thread. (The quoted text.) The location has not been picked. First I need to decide on the SMP based on the vote, then select a good location in the frontier. If you have any feedback on a location you'd like that will be great. The end location should have a good mix of different biomes.
  5. I'm in. Bump.
  6. Just curious, will the rail be 1-way? I foresee a lot of lose-your-minecart collisions otherwise. :p
  7. Yes it's one way. You will be given a point A and B, and you need to go from A to B. It is not required or encouraged that the track support travel from B to A. In fact, I'll probably be building in some mechanics to prevent minecarts going the other way.
