  1. I was interested in building an Empire Zoo in the frontier by luring in some nether mobs and using name tags, though I have no idea how to trap an enderman. When I was trying to wither farm I found out we can't use name tags on hostile mobs. Is there a reason this can't ever happen? I really want a monkey cage of enraged zombies.

If it's just about spawn limits and such, maybe place a cap per player? If it's about grief (replacing tnt with creepers) that might help too.
It was being talked about in the thread about wither farms, but since those got ruled ridiculous, I felt this deserved a new thread.

Suggestion: Name tags on hostile mobs.
  2. bump because I still really think this is worthwhile. That or I want to know why it can never be allowed.
Now that TNT is permissible, I can't imagine named mobs being the problem.
  3. You could always just build a zoo without tagged mobs :)
  4. Yes but they would eventually despawn. Tagged mobs don't.
  5. Withers cannot be tagged. To my knowledge, other mobs can.
  6. With this zoo being in the frontier it would be a grifer's prize. Say a griefer were to find the zoo and break the walls, the tagged mobs would be running round left right and centre unable to de spawn making life awkward for us all.
  7. Kill them.
  8. Fair enough, but some of us who have phobia to monsters (wimps) prefer to avoid a fight than pick one :p
    PenguinDJ likes this.
  9. :)They can't do anything the regular mobs can't do; they just won't despawn. Aside from the nether mobs this wouldn't be that crazy. I would be mad at the guy who broke my walls though. Griefers won't go through the trouble of luring a ghast through a nether portal. That's work, and still probably not as effective as tnt.
  10. Another thought; you could name a Momentus or something so it will be there when you come back with your diamond sword. Also, this seems like the only really effective way to save a villager zombie, unless you happen to have your brewing and materials for a cage all handy.
  11. Ones last bump of my own suggestion to make sure no one knows and/or and no one cares.
Really curious about the reason for the adjustment on EMC so that my suggestion can address the actual issues.
