    Minecraft Team Strengthened!

by Jens Bergensten on February 28, 2012

Today we can announce that the four main developers of bukkit – a community-based Minecraft server implementation – have joined ranks with Mojang to bring you the same flexibility and versatility to the official Minecraft server. The four, Warren Loo (@evilseph), Erik Broes, Nathan Adams (@dinnerbone) and Nathan Gilbert, will work on improving both the server and the client to offer better official support for larger servers and server modifications.
The plan is to build a fresh server API, and then extend it to support client-side modding (in one way or another). We will try to make it easy for bukkit users to convert if they wish to do so, but backwards compatibility is not guaranteed. We will, however, help bukkit to be compatible with 1.2, to avoid having a long gap while you wait for the official Minecraft server to catch up.
Many of you may ask why we decided to work with bukkit instead of other Minecraft teams, such as Spout or Forge. The reason is that we want more than just modding, and these guys have always had server admins in mind when developing their additions to the game. We hope that this will help the quality of Minecraft multi-player to improve, both for large and private family servers, while still being able to add fun stuff for the bigger audience.
In addition to the bukkit members, Daniel Kaplan (@kappische) will join to handle the project lead to coordinate Minecraft’s broader goals. I (@jeb_) will remain as lead developer and game designer for Minecraft.

  2. Great Now Bukkit will get the praise they deserve :D
  3. Halleluja! This means that we will get Bukkit faster? :D
  4. Fantastic news, this may mean there will be some impressive features and faster bukkit development for new updates, good on them, I like very much. :)

I hope with the fresh server API development it does not place an unneeded amount of stress and workload on Justin to update EMC plugins to fit the new systems (when implemented of course.)
  5. Pretty interesting news! :) Thanks for heads up
  6. Great news! Suprised no-one offered Justin a job yet ;)

(This is a random post with no idea. Im bored. And why are you still reading this text? Seriously? Why dont you stop reading this? C'mon stop reading! .... Rly? You just cant stop reading this? God... I'll just stop here...)
  10. you are literally an amazing admin and leader, along with coder, etc.

I think you could easily get to work for Bukkit, Mojang, etc.

I think someone should contact Mojang and ask them to check out EMC. And maybe, just maybe, this could make it to be something like the OFFICIAL MINECRAFT SERVER(S)
  11. Haha I appreciate the kind words. I already work for a gaming company :)
  12. Which one? Kalland Labs? oh wait, they just host servers......
  13. EMC is the gaming company :p
Btw: Kalland Labs. = Justin and lots of other gamers :)
  14. We knew they would become part of Mojang all along :p
  15. I have thought of this idea also! :OOOOOOOO PM MINECRAFT CHICK! :D
  16. I should be the one who gets a job. I make sure people know who I am, all Justinguy does is sit on his lazy can and code, develop, and make severs... Maybe he should get a job...

  17. I personally think this will improve the stability of the base minecraft servers. bukkit is reliable, simple, and fast. With those advantages to the base minecraft servers that would make it easier for us to just start up the server right from the vanilla minecraft server file. Also the server updates will come out faster since as the Mojang team is working on minecraft, the bukkit team will be able to test their server software a long with the screenshots/patches.
