Is this a good idea, and if it is, should I start a business, making hopper transporters for people?

No, it is not a good idea. 5 vote(s) 33.3%

  1. So, I was developing a new way to transport my items from one place on my res to another, with minimum work, and here's what I came up with:
    1. First, you place items in the "TO" chest:

    2. Second, you wander off, doing your daily duties, and you eventually walk to the post office:

    3. So, you open your "FROM" chest, and find that your "shipped" items have arrived, without you doing anything, and you can now use them!

Here are some statistics of the design:
    Transporting 64 items:
    25.6 seconds.
    Transporting 32 items:
    12.8 seconds.
    Transporting 16 items:
    6.4 seconds.
    Transporting 8 items:
    3.2 seconds
[Note: All statistics are based on a standard 42 block transport.]

  2. It's useful, but without any proof that it works, I wouldn't trust it. You seem to be avoiding an in-depth look.

  3. I don't have a YouTube account, and I can't post a video, so how would you recommend I give you a more inside look?
  4. Perhaps you could demonstrate it? We need to know what's inside the chest before an after. Even showing the redstone work is enough.

  5. There's no redstone, only hoppers, but I'll add the picture with the stuff in the starting chest.
  6. You could post a world download to a mediafire.com That way you could let people see how it works, and get feedback on how to improve it.
  7. Okay, but do you need to pay to upload folders on MediaFire? I can't do that. :(
  8. I don't think you have to pay. I think MediaFire is free. There are other free file uploading sites, too. Just watch out for viruses.
  9. Thanks, expect a proof-of-concept world to come out tomorrow.
  10. That looks really cool

  11. The time needed is per hopper, so it would last quite long to transport few stacks or a chest over greater distance.
What you can do is use minecarts with chests and/or hoppers.
You can also create sorting machines, where you just drop your inv on a hopper (or into water conveyor) and it gets automatically sorted into chests.

  12. I used hoppers mainly because they are protected by flags on ones res-unlike minecart hoppers, which can be glitchy and are unprotected. In my case, I don't see the need for a sorting system, however one could easily implement one. Also, hoppers transport items at 2.5 items per second, which is reasonably fast.
  13. It already uses hoppers, but, for the reason I stated in post #12, I would like to refrain from using MinecartHoppers.
  14. Does anyone have any ideas for how to improve it? I am open to suggestions :)
  15. I would, but Chest-Minecarts are unprotected, so someone could easily steal my stuff :(
  16. adsingh its a very simple system. Its just a chain of hoppers, you shouldnt ask to be credited. Its like the person who invented the wheel to be credited on every wheel. Unreasonable.
  17. I wanted to be credited for making the world, not the design. I'm not the first in Minecraft to make it, but most likely the first on EMC.
  18. I dont think so, Its very simple anyone could do it. It doesnt take a degree to put a chest then a hopper then another chest. I use this and have since the minute the update came to EMC, im not saying im the first on EMC but this is more a share of a design than a breakthrough discovery.
  19. Good idea. Where do you think I could implement them?
