So... Windows 8 and installing modloader

  1. I'm trying to install modloader for the first time on my new windows 8 operating system. I downloaded WinRaR like the modloader instructions says and replaced the contents of the folder in minecraft.jar. I did delete the META-INF file like the many instructions say. I opened up minecraft and got a black screen... and so far I'm stumped. Does anyone know if it won't work on windows 8, or if it was installed incorrectly?
  2. That's what I'm using now and what I used to use on my other laptop, but I can't use rei's minimap with magic launcher. It's not compatible.
  3. I can get Rei's Minimap to work. Well, I have no clue how to use mods outside of the magic launcher, so I can't suggest anything else. Sorry. :)
  4. Okay so the thing is Minecraft 1.4.6 was like just released, you probably have incompatible versions of mods... So are you running Minecraft 1.4.5 or Minecraft 1.4.6? If your running 1.4.5 make sure the modloader version is for Minecraft 1.4.5 NOT Minecraft 1.4.6
    Hope this helps ;) Let me know by quoting this post if it doesn't and I'll continue to try to help you out :D
  5. I did remember to grab my 1.4.5 bin file from my old computer after I first posted, and I saved copies of both 1.4.6 and 1.4.5 (in case I screwed up and needed a fresh copy). After
    I
    used 1.4.5 everything seemed to be working with mod loader and optifine, so now I get to start on rei's minimap and installing one of the inventory mods too.
  6. If you're still having issues with Rei's here's the 1.4.5 version http://adf.ly/937215/reimm-145 It's listed in small print on the Rei's forum.

    Also don't forget the install order :)
  7. So from this I take it you have successfully installed both Modloader and OptiFine, now you need to install Inventory Tweaks? If so you need to download the correct version, click here for 1.4.5. Once you have downloaded the zip, copy it into the /mods folder in your .minecraft folder. Start Minecraft and you should be running Inventory Tweaks. To check that you are running Inventory Tweaks open you inventory and you should have a little button with ... on it in the top right corner.
  8. Thank you for that easy to understand version of installing and running inventory tweaks. I swear, I'm going to figure out the easiest, plain English way to install these files so that every one knows what to do.

    Oh God... I just had a terrible thought. Do I have to do this all again when empire is ready with 1.4.6 and future versions?
  9. You will have to re-install your mods every time Minecraft updates... which is why you should use magic launcher.
  10. I lost my faith in magic launcher when it stopped launching minecraft on my old laptop; I've actually been converted to manually using mod loader. By the way, does anyone have an updated link to reis minimap?
  11. pyro_vampiress likes this.
  12. How do you guys think Magic Launcher is easy?

    I think deactivating a nuke would be easier than using Magic Launcher.
  13. Thank you very much Ninja! And I partially agree with Magic Launcher not being easy. It is easy for a few select mods, and the reddit link is honestly what really jumped me into being a huge redditer, but it isn't useful for anything else. And I now have a reddit app on my phone. ^_^;
