Hello EMC! I have been thinking of doing this for a while and i have finally decided to do it, with permission. im sure some of you have seen giant tree crushers on youtube. I want to make one. now before you talk about lag and stuff hear me out. Mine would be smaller. i have even considered going into creative mode and test building some there that are small. I know EMC has amazing servers, and i know that on a 2 gig bukkit server it doesn't lag, but that is with less than 5 people on at once. also last but not leasat in my argument is that it would NOT be on 24/7, more of like 2-3 minutes at a time. some people have cobblestone and stone generators that use more redstone than this. if you are completely confused by what i mean when i say 'tree crusher' then look here:
Yup! If it does lag, then you can just make it smaller Likely though, it would be local lag, not server wide lag, if there was any
I beleive there are at least ten of these massive Oakenators on server 4 currently. I don't think I noticed any lag and remember a specific time when three of them were running at the same time.
Oh, and I added a stone gen attachment to mine. Its a nice feature to just turn on and let it fill up a 12 x 12 x 12 chunk of stone while you do other things. Check it out sometime on my 3 res. Vitiri modified the design to allow for glowstone / redstone pillars to save space on the vertical power lifts, but you will have to find it on his 2 res lol, it's hidden underground.
I have one or a oakenator on my res was fun making it and there is little or no lag when using it when I use it.
You have to do all the work you might normally do so they aren't much more than a novelty in my opinion. There are two features that make them worthwhile. They form the logs into a nice block that's easier to chop without hitting dirt and leaves. This has been a problem for me especially when trying to use an Efficiency axe. The best feature is that they strip all the leaves. I think the most time consuming part of chopping logs is clearing the leaves and harvesting saplings so this saves a lot of time. Downside is a huge up front investment in time, material, and space. If you use one, you'll probably want to build a skeleton or natural grinder somewhere, if you don't already have one, to keep you supplied with bone meal.
