[Question] Xbox 360 & External Memory

Discussion in 'Gaming' started by kaptrix, Mar 8, 2016.

  1. Let me start off by saying I have little to no knowledge in this area so if more information is needed I will gladly provide it. My son has an Xbox 360 with very little memory on it. This causes a problem when trying to add DLC to it. I've been looking into purchasing external memory for it, but I'm completely lost as to what to purchase. I have read this particular Xbox will only add up to 16 GB of memory total. So first, I looked into external hard drives. It seems like a waste to me to pay $70 for one because it comes with 500 GB or 1 TB. I've also looked into flash drives, but I'm not sure if it can be formatted to be recognized as a hard drive. Basically my question is what is my best option to buy for external memory? I don't mind paying the $70 for an actual hard drive if I need to, but I'd rather not if it isn't necessary. Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions offered! (Also, sorry if this is in the wrong section.)

  2. I used a 16gb flash drive in my xbox 360 and it worked fine. Are you sure it will only use 16gb? Usually memory means RAM not your hard drive.
  3. Honestly, I have no clue. I just read that in multiple places. I used a flash drive and the Xbox won't recognize it as a hard drive, which is why I asked about it being formatted.
  4. Mine formatted it automatically. You might have to go into the settings and format manually it from there.
  5. I tried that as well and its just not recognizing it. The only thing I can think of is that I need to either format it another way or buy a specific type of flash drive.
  6. Thanks :) I'll try that.
