I don't think it has anything to do with being a bad person. We all know what kind of person they were; heck, even I do. But comments such as the ones you said could cause issues with other people. They could have had a better effect on the situation unsaid. :P
That being said, I don't disagree with you on that situation. That gets irritating, fast. But it's best to handle it as calmly and reserved as possible, in my opinion. Keep the peace, ya know? :P
