Same here in Tennessee; we're still reaching about 80 during the day but poised to get a cold front limiting us to about 70. It's fairly typical for us to get hot weather from the second week of May to first week of October.

Oh wow! It's funny you mention that because the city I live in is notorious for having hot weather in September, up to the 100s, then it falls off a cliff into the 70s when October comes. To hear October has 90+ temps for me is not normal. Usually it should be 80s, max. (Everybody at the office is talking about it and nobody is looking forward to it haha)

Yeah. Our autumn temperatures do drop more quickly than spring ones rise, but they still don't drop dramatically in the manner that they do along the West Coast. The West Coast is hottest in August or even September (as opposed to simply being hotter in August than June), but it's also coldest in December rather than January.

Not that it matters much along some of the West Coast anyways. San Francisco and Oakland stay extremely mild year-round; really the only big difference there is that winter is dark and rainy, while summer is bright and completely dry.

That's right! To be honest, my parents have it made because they live in Oceanside and this will be their first winter living there. They'll be enjoying the nice mild temps while I freeze over where I live. XD

I wouldn't say Sacramento gets that cold in winter. It's milder than it is here. Still, it would be a more consistent cold, it's also a bit darker there, and the Tule fog there can be insufferable from what I've heard!

I think you're confusing Bakersfield and Sacramento with each other. Tule fog is in Bakersfield, Sacramento doesn't get Tule Fog. And Sacramento can get quite freezing, last winter it got into the 20s.

Can, but that's just a few nights at most. Also, I'm pretty sure the entire Central Valley gets Tule fog sometimes?

I have not heard of such a thing and I've lived in the valley for my whole life. Last time I remember Sacramento getting any substantial fog worth mentioning was in the early 2000s. We really do not get fog up here. That's more of a Bakersfield/Bay Area thing.

It might be considered Tule Fog in the Bay Area, but I've only heard of it occurring in Bakersfield. I used to live down there and it was extremely dangerous. You couldn't see 25 feet ahead of you. I cannot confirm or deny the fog in the Bay Area however, since I've only been there twice. Though from what I remember, it was nowhere as bad as Bakersfield.

What about north of Sacramento? It may just be less dense around not only the Bay but also the Sacramento Delta, given that dense, cold air has a clearer outlet there. That's why San Francisco and Oakland are especially mild during summer; the Bay and Delta are the only break in the mountains separating the cool ocean and hot valley.

Beyond the airport, I'm sure they get some sort of layered fog, but not Tule Fog. We don't have the temperature inversion like Bakersfield does. You can thank global warming for that. :\

Yeah, I've heard that Tule fog has become less frequent. Maybe the Sacramento Valley has lost more Tule fog than the San Joaquin Valley has? But yeah, the West is getting drier. The opposite is happening here, though; orographic fog on the Cumberland Plateau caught me off guard when I drove back from Georgia after a rainy day!

We also just had a triple La Nina, and a strong El Nino is ongoing and expected to persist into winter. El Nino means more rain and potentially fog for us both while most non-Sun Belt states get left high and dry. (Sorry that my keyboard doesn't have Spanish accents.)

Totally. The weather we have in the west is either "hot" or "cold". We rarely get the proper temperatures that facilitate fog anymore. It's either blistering dry heat, or frigid dry cold snaps. And no worries, I memorized some ALT commands, but not enough to have conversations with others in Spanish on here haha XD
